I have couple of questions if you don't mind
I have 3 DS410 servos laying around, can I use them instead of the S3114?
I also have AR6115e, can I use this Rx?
And as far as the ESC, can I use CC PHOENIX ICE 50 BL and get away with the rimfire 0.1 motor or you would still recommend other motor?

Align DS410 Digital 0.45 oz (12.7 g) 0.930.491.04 in (23.612.426.4 mm)
4.8V: 25.0 oz-in (1.8 kg-cm)
6.0V: 30.6 oz-in (2.2 kg-cm)
4.8V: 0.13 sec/60
6.0V: 0.09 sec/60

Futaba S3114 Analog 0.28 oz (7.8 g) 0.870.430.79 in (22.110.920.1 mm)
4.8V: 21.0 oz-in (1.5 kg-cm)
6.0V: 24.0 oz-in (1.7 kg-cm)
4.8V: 0.10 sec/60
6.0V: 0.09 sec/60

Thank a lot, I appreciate anything to have to suggest.
nirtza, those servos will work just as well as the S3114, although, word of caution: the Super Stearman is already very heavy as it is.Then the 2 to 3 oz of nose weight you may need to add as I did. You are likely to end up with a 3 pound plane.

Thanks for the reply..
I am not so worried about the weight as I do not intent on crazy 3D just sporting around. Do you think it will be good for that?

The planes AUW will probably come in around 40 to 43 oz. Your wing loading will be around 16 to 17 oz/ft2 which is right at sport weight. Have to fly fast to keep it in the air. This plane does not like to fly slow, its will fall out of the sky like a brick. You have to fly this one all the way to the ground. I am thinking of tearing mine down to try to lighten it a bit.

Certainly, you need to keep airspeed on this one!

Check out my buddies Video Maiden Flight, just excuse the commentary in the first half of the video.

Hi PittSpecial, thanks for pitching in.
I actually asked about the ESC and the motor because of your buddies videos, I don't know if you've seen my question so here it is, what are your suggestion about the ESC and motor? Does a CC Pheonix Ice 50 would be enough for the RimFire 0.1 or you would still suggest other motor?
Thanks again

I flew around a while, it took more trim than almost any plane I have built. You can see a noticeable right aileron and right rudder when I came down. When I was about ready to land, I let it get a little too slow and it fell right out of the sky, but I let it dive and speed up and pulled it out just above the ground. It was back lit and I could not tell which side was up so I rolled around until I figured out which way was up and got it headed back to me. I flew by and pulled straight up. The eflite power 10 I put in the Stearman is larger, heaver, and more powerful than stock. That motor pulled the Stearman straight up at less than full throttle with unlimited vertical. I came down at a fairly steep angle and leveled off about a foot above the runway and cut power for a perfect landing. If I had not had 4 years of practice on other planes I would have crashed this one, it was a handful and I was shaking after I landed. I flew my Eflite Extra 260 just before this plane the Extra if very responsive but much easier to fly than the Stearman. After the Stearman, I flew my T28 which is extremely easier to fly by comparison.
GCPlane,

Wonderful news on your Maiden!

Can you please tell us what propeller you finally used on your model with the E-Flite Power 10 Brushless?

Was it the APC "E" 10 X 6 ? Or....?

Thanks!
Carlos

nirtza79,

Here is another Video of my buddy Gerry and his Super Stearman!

Also, to answer your question about the ICE 50 by Castle Creations, YES, it will sustain the AMP (Current) Draw demand from the RImFire motor should you want to go with the recommended power system.

Recall that at Castle Creations web site it warns:
Ratings are determined with a 5mph airflow on the ESC

Best of luck!

nirtza79, I had a 50amp in with the rimfire .10. It fried the motor on the second flight. The motor may have been damaged when I had it in a previous plane, I don't know for sure. Installed an Exceed 480 910kv (http://www.hobbypartz.com/75m50-opti...0-910kv-2.html) with 10x7 slow flyer prop and a Dynam Detrum 40 amp ESC (http://www.hobbypartz.com/60p-dye-1004-40a-esc.html) and a Gen Ace 2200mah battery (http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-30c-2200-3s1p-3333.html and it flies great and is a more affordable set up. Gave it just a thin washer more of right and down thrust. As far as Rx and Tx, I use the Tactic Any link Rx on my Futaba 6ch radio (T6EXP) so I can mix Aileron and rudder and put ailerons on separate channels so I can set up and down differentials, more up than down. I purchased a gyro last week for it to help with ROG take offs. Have to do my home work to figure out how to set it up though. Good luck !

Using anything larger than a 9 inch propeller will fry the recommended RimFire for sure and especially using higher Discharge capacity batts.

Rimfire or Electrifly suggested a 10x7e prop and an 2200mah bat and 35amp esc. 35 amp esc got hot as heck. That was the power recommendations they suggested.

Yes, I know and early on during my attempts to post my warnings, I got some negative replies for me trying to warn those others.

I just think that the Distributor needs to Keep bringing nice looking models to us and stay away from recommending Power Systems.

That could not have been a truer statement

My RimFire .10 burnt out recently. Not sure what happened. There seems to be burnt residue inside the motor. Seems like inside wire melted due to short or something. I have 3 RimeFire .10 motors and this is the first to go under for whatever reasons.

The EF 40 amp ESC Pro is good. I have since installed another motor back on and ready to take this baby back in the air.
