Yeah, it's tough to buy anything from German Ebay if you're outside of Europe. And they have some great engine listings. They don't need to sell worldwide. They get the highest price right at home. Virtually all of my nicer engine listings on Ebay have shipped overseas.

Hi
A while ago an elderly gentleman told me it looked like a Meteor 25 from Hungary, possibly from the same producer as the Alag but I can't find any evidence at all. This article has the word Meteor mentioned once, but nothing about the engine size, picture or year of fabrication. http://modelenginenews.org/ad/alag.html Any help apreciated ! /Allan |

Allan,
It is indeed a Hungarian Meteor 25. Here is a photo from THIS site, showing lots of interesting engines rarely seen at "our backyard".....

Md5 "kometa" (comet)
The Hungarian Meteor ... looks nice
Now the utilitarian looking soviet era Russian MD 5 Kometa diesel. First mentioned on page 47 (post number 692) though no informaton was given. It looks like an interpretation of an old SuperTigre engine Can anyway translate the cyrillic for me? The backplate contains "UEHA" and a "9p.50kon." Is UEHA the manufacturer? What is known of these? |

KOMETA 5
Like you say, very similar to an early Super Tigre. I once owned a glow version of the same engine....identical to yours, apart from a finned, non-anodised head, and a ringed alu piston / steel liner, also Super Tigre style.... I traded it away before even test running, but it felt like a well built engine...

As I understand it Brian, in the USSR (as was) inflation was officially not allowed - so you could safely stamp the price on! I must say, every time I visit the supermarket and look at this weeks new prices I wonder if they might have had something there .....pity the rest of the system didn't work!

I have a feeling that this will fetch mega-bucks..........
(Quoting from Mike Clanford's book) "E.R.E. (English Racing Engine) 2.5cc. Made by H. Baigenaut, Bournemouth in 1947 and marketed by Replica, Sloane Square, London." (That's not a longstroke ! This is a longstroke ! ) http://www.ebay.com/itm/ERE-2-49cc-V...item1e73c2d127 |

Any confusion is only due to the fact that they're not seen very often, and the tank should obviously be below the venturi and not on top, the way it's shown. I don't know whether there have been any repros or not, but the wrong tank mounting bit makes me think that it may well be an original, i.e. a repro would likely be with a collector and would at least be properly assembled... A rare engine... |

One "interesting" point, on their page 26, there is a Taplin Twin Mk I, which is called a (DC) "Tornado", but I looked all around the site, and I didn't find any means of contact at all. |
