Hmmm wonder if these would be good to replace the orginal legs with..

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...uct=53750.html

with a extended 5mm pin from the retract to the leg to make up the length.

Nice touch with Rainier... and those clear blue skies! - watch out, or that green grass may start to turn brown. - Strange weather this year, huh?

Well yesterday I was flying normal and scale, all of a sudden a noise could be heard and then BANG!!!!! The prop hub disintegrated and the motor ejected itself from the plane.

Belly landed safely with not a single scratch. Just need a new cowling and prop hub. Not sure why it did that as I haven't even been to full throttle yet. Nothing has touched the hub or props except me while installing them. I can only chock it up to bad QC and a hairline fracture in one of the hub sections. ?

Interesting - I have had the same thing happen with the original size propeller a while back.

Like you I only try to fly at scale-sh speeds and scale-ish manoeuvres. On that day I was doing the same manoeuvres as normal when there was a bang followed by loud vibration. Got it back on the ground to find a third of the spinner back plate plus one blade gone.

Like you the prop/spinner had not got any previous known damage so you are probably right, a QC issue.

Did you balance the hub/prop? Mine was pretty badly out of balance, and not balancing it I imagine will cause vibration/stress that may result in disintegration.

I always go to great trouble to balance propellers and spinners, it was silky smooth. Check out some movies much earlier in this thread, or on my channel here:-

Prop blades were all balanced and there was no noticeable vibrations during the initial flights.
Anyway, not to worry. Replacements are on the way.

Quite a good looking bird actually, and like most Australian animals, is armed with sharp spikes on the wing shoulders. Some say they are poisonous and some don't, but all I know is that my neighbours dog got attacked by a Plover two years ago. It got spiked in the neck and was sick and couldn't see for a few days. So who knows?

Just another animal trying to kill us at the park. Glad we don't have drop bears in our area.
Oh...... I must thank you for exporting this lovely creature to our shores!!! Bloody things are a nuisance !!! They are now well established over here.

I was lucky enough to spend 3 years over in Oz working at Albatross Naval Base - Nowra. One of the first things I noticed was how agressive the animals all were (not commenting on the humans!!!). The birds were so agressive they had our cat (steely eyed killer of sparrows that it was) cowering indoors.

Good fun ehhh!

Alfoot- sir-I absolutely love the FMS bf-109 in the desert camo scheme! What's holding me back is the reported ground handling, which would be made worse by my grass field (long and un-level in areas). I see you had/ have the G.P. Wright Flyer. I had one but sold it. Balanced right, I found it to be a suprisigly nice flyer.
