Guppy 13

Here is my other boat... It is a pocket cruiser that I found on craigslist. It had a little damage to the cockpit area which has been repaired . I took it out a few times and it was always fun.

I prefer the Camarada, what's her history?

Any better pictures of her?

Preferably under sail

SS Camarada

She was built by the Commodore of the first yacht club on the west coast, the south bay yacht club in Alviso. His name was Joseph Olcott McKee. He had the first transportation company in the bay area and transported all kinds of goods on sailing sloops. Alviso was also the capitol of California at that time. When the capitol moved his company transported the states records to Sacramento.

My partners found the boat and she was sinking, so they restored her to her present glory, not knowing the historical significance of the boat, but just appreciating her classic appeal. I found the above information by searching the internet, and then I found an old picture which is still on the boat of captain McKee.

Rumor had it the boat had a sister which fell down during construction due to the 1906 earthquake, but I feel that could have been started due to the fact that his house fell down in 1906.

The clubhouse at the SBYC yacht club burned in 1920, so all the actual records are lost, but I feel the boat is captain McKees' but the historical society cant verify the story. It sure is a wonderful way to spend the weekend in SanFransisco.

Cheers,

Mike

Will try again later to post some more pictures!

Thanks for asking, I love the boat but the story is awesome. Roger says we are going to sail to Indonesia but I am not to sure about that! I would like to get her out on a strong day in the bay and see how she handles a good blow.

Cheers,

Mike

Had the guppy out way too far!

Went sailing yesterday had a blast!

Went about three miles out into lake michigan. Way too far for the little boat but the conditions were good and there was a lot of other boats in the vicinity. Looks calm but the seas were about two to three feet.

Most of the time when I had some cool picture to take I had my hands full.

Very nice area! Cant wait to come back again.

Cheers,

Mike

30 tons of bay freighter!

Built in the stone boat yard 1906.

Originally a sloop, she has been converted into a schooner.
