WAEF Flyers Thread

WAEF (West Australian Electric Flyers) has kicked off for the 2016 flying season following our AGM earlier this month.

WAEF was formed to provide members with an approved flying location where we have permission to fly and are covered by nationally recognised MAAA insurance. Our members fly smaller electric only models that range from micro foam ďready to flyĒ planes that anyone can buy from a hobbyshop, to ARF or scratch built models of traditional balsa construction.

Are you just getting into the hobby?
Got a plane under the Christmas tree and donít know what to do with it?
Wanting to fly with like-minded people but are reluctant to join a large established club and share the sky with big nitro and turbine models?
Flying at your local park but worried about being chased off by the ranger?
Worried about what might happen if you hit a dog walker (or the dog)?

WAEF might be for you.

There is no plane too humble for WAEF. Beginners are more than welcome and Iím sure that any of our members will be happy to help.

We have recently obtained permission to fly from a local school oval on weekends. As our established field, our members will be covered by MAAA insurance during flying activities. We have obtained permission from Joondalup council to fly at other locations in the past and are working with them to establish other new approved flying locations.

If you are interested please PM me and Iíll provide more details so you can come along and check us out and have a fly.

Aiming to check the new field out after flying at the lake Sun. Already got my signs made up. Reckon a bunnings tomato trellis thingy will work well as a support.

Hey you guys with skippers, still waiting on mine, but in anticipation a few questions:
- best CG location?
- what did you put on the bottom to protect it
- did you glue the wings and tail feathers on or just use the tape
- When you put the rx into the balloon did you leave the antenna inside?

I think I can figure the rest out. Planning on using zippy 1500 25C 3s same as my wildcat.

On Sunday we maidened the new field. Nice grass, nice enough for PZ spitfires to take off without nose over, not quite nice enough to prevent landing noseover.

will be away for the next couple of weekends but looking forward to catching up next time

In other news my skipper has arrived

I have also gained a 60 size boomerang with a mandate to get it flying from a friend who doesn't have the time. The main issue is the rips in the covering. I have no idea to how to repair these. Help!

Is there some sort of clear film that can be used to patch over without losing the pattern in the original covering? The wing holes can be patched with sticky tape I reckon, the tailplane is too big for that.

I'm not even sure if my charger can handle the 5800mAh 6S battery it comes with. It comes with two of these and a 8000mAh 6S as well (!). One for the lake field I reckon.

It also came with a HZ Delta Ray and a heavily modified bixler. The delta ray is ready to go, the bixler doesn't have a RX with all the leads coming to a green MPX plug so not sure how to get it attached. It looks heavily modified to me (60A ESC!).

Also gain a taranis radio and 2 x FrSky receivers. Will need some assistance with that as well

Will keep me busy

Wow, that's some treasure you've got there Kwaz,

The MPX plug is a good one, I haven't seen it done that way before.

Happy to give you a hand wherever you need, I should have Some of the public hol Monday free if that suits you.

The plot thickens. I have found the bixler receiver in a belly hatch with some other electronic stuff. Rumoured to be a GPS. Think I need a FPV guy to take a look at this baby.

I have some 3S 2200 batteries that came with it. Seem a little underdone for a 60A ESC. Has a 2200Kv motor.

The green plug remains a mystery.

Dunno yet, have to see where all the leads go
MPX can be used for heaps of things. if you're clever you can route 4 servos through it to make a single connector that you can connect and disconnect all at once without having to think what goes where.

'Cause it came with a taranis, chances are the stuff in the bix' belly is some telemetry units of some kind. I should be able to help you with that too.
