I am trying to keep an open mind on this "retirement" trip of mine and keep it in perspective, but I agree about the "Golden Years" BS. Probably that "golden years" stuff one sees and hears on the media is really probably some subliminal advertising for geritol and other geriatric products.

Youth is kind of wasted on those younger than a lot of us (most of us) here who tend not to appreciate their youth and health until they are old farts or up and coming old farts-in-training and are no longer as youthful nor as healthy as they were previously. Most of us here are semi-ambulatory basket cases on a far too frequent basis

Pretty soon all we'll be posting about is our bowel movements, pill counts, and the number of conditions and specialists we have

Some nasty people do not like facts Then facts they shall receive. Good work, Buzz.

Congratulations

Congratulations to all who sent in a complaint to the FAA. Latest update I just got from AMA:

AMAGOV-HEADER

FAA grants comment extension at the request of AMA

At the request of the AMA, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted a 60-day extension for the public comment period (Docket No. FAA-2014-0396) for FAA's Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft established by Congress as part of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012. The 60-day extension establishes the new deadline for comments as September 23, 2014.

In the United States Department of Transportation/FAA notice due to publish in the Federal Register on July 25, 2014, the FAA noted the following:

"On July 16, 2014, the Academy of Model Aeronautics submitted a request to extend the comment period by 60 days, citing the need to "educate the aeromodeling community, clarify the issues, and respond to questions regarding the impact that the interpretive rule has on various aspects of the modeling activity." The FAA agrees that additional time for the submission of comments would be helpful, and therefore has decided to extend the comment period until September 23, 2014. The FAA expects that the additional time for comments will allow the affected community to prepare meaningful comments which will help the FAA to determine what clarifications to the interpretation may be necessary."
Your Action is needed now

The administrative rulemaking notice and comment process is the means by which the FAA can address these concerns and make any definitive changes to the rule. Your comments need to be detailed, meaningful, and constructive.

We are asking all of our members and everyone who has an interest in the future of model aviation to participate in this process.

Lol I am in the Golden Years, more like Fool's Golden Years. The only nice part is being retired and watching the pensions being deposited twice a month.

For some reason I have been quite tired and sleepy the last few days, went back to bed for a while after going out for breakfast and getting groceries. I was into a deep sleep, good dreams (can't remember what the dream was but it was good) when the wife woke me up. I had to take her for an appointment. I could have slept another hour ugh,

Well done, Mike. We really DO need everyone to go to that link and make a comment about our hobby. If we don't stand up for ourselves now, we won't be able to later. This is liable to be your only chance at making them know how y ou really feel about it... be nice... and ask questions they cannot answer about new rules. The more we approach this as adults with proof of safety flying , the more it will be read and passed around. There should be an age limit to fly a quad.
Same as driving a car!

I am not quite the mad scientist that Lee is, maybe more like a mad tinkerer, but I do like to reuse things sometimes, and thought some of you here might appreciate this. I get a lot of free flashlights from Harbor Freight, and I also have a lot of old lipo batteries that aren't good for flying anymore. But I have found that those batteries work great in toy tansmitters and LED flashlights. So here are a few pictures of those free flashlights with lipos installed. All can be easily returned to using regularl alkaline batteries. The two round ones actually have 1300mah single cell round lipos in them, the others have 300mah lipos. And these are my best flashlights excluding my spotlight which I think came with a lipo in it.

And now for something completely different, a 4 foot long bull snake that was 20 feet from my backdoor when I saw it. I have seen snakes like this for the 35+ years I have been living here. No rattlesnakes though. And I let these snakes go on their way when I see them. Did show it to my daughter though. Dog wouldn't get within 20 feet of it, but he is the same way with baby bunnies. Cat got about a foot away and raised his paw like he would slap it, but didn't. Snakes are worth their weight in gold for the rats and mice they eat.
