Can I use my laptop as a FPV monitor?

I done a search on the forums and found something about a USB Tuner, like this:

Will this work? I'm just wanting to consolidate my field gear and being able to leave the FPV monitor would be just one less thing to carry.

ezcap is the best way to use a laptop as your monitor..

However, the main problem with using laptops is that outside they generally don't have bright enough screens to be seen.

When I shoot photos, tethered from my camera to laptop, I use a hood. Brightness isn't an issue, unless the fpv tx changes the brightness.

Is there any lag time when using the ezcap? I'm sure it would be dependent on the cpu of the laptop...but assuming the cpu is fast enough to keep up with live video.

A friend of mine flys with the $20 version of ezcap, using his 2012 version of macbook air. There was just a very small amount of lag, but less than 0.25 seconds. Nothing to prevent flight.

If you have a hood, then you will likely be ok. We tried various shades and sun blockers, but none were really good enough.
