Here is my Y6 hexa that I built from square aluminum tubes and glass fiber sheet.
(gimbal is not scratchbuilt)
It's still a work in progress & waiting for maiden flight

AL profiles 15x15mm.. at the base there's two on each other to increase strenght. Base is made from 2.5mm GF sheet.
T-motor 770kV + HK F40A (stock FW).
Controller - Naza+GPS and multiwii for Gimbal.
2x5000mAh 4s battery

Current weight with Panasonic GH2 is over 4kg

I like it! I love the looks of a Y6 but cant help to think about the slightly lower effiency compared to a hex (Im a duration flyer )

Thanks, I agree with you on efficiency.
I was planning to build a flat hexa, but after doing some reading it turns out that Y6 has much better redundancy in case of engine/ESC failure....
And for me, redundancy is much more important for such a heavy machine with (sorta) expensive equipment on board.

I didn't even took of yet, but I don't like the gimbal... its too flimsy.. so I don't think I will be getting any useful results with it

Hope someone will put together a kit of working Brushless Direct drive gimbal soon... would like to get a Zenmuse, but price wise its out of my league.

I can vouch for the Y6 redundancy. I have lost a spinner because i had not used locktite and even when loosing a prop the Y6 did not bother. I'll take redundancy over efficiency any day.

My Y6 based on DJI 550 centre and Vulcan Aluminium arms

Maiden flight video. I was concerned whether the video footage would be vibration free. It exceeded my expectations.

Still need alopt of fine tuining and setting the Naza voltage levels up etc

I'm made a maiden today as well... video from gimbal was unusable as it was shaking as hell... I'd be rather off without gimbal at all.
Y6 itself was pretty stable without any tuning.... Like it so far.

I was having an issue with stability ando I've installed SimonK firmware - which solved the issue!

Unbelievable... these HK F40A ESC's are complete unusable crap without Simon's firmware!
This guy deserves a medal - or at least donating!


So thanks Simon for making this FW... performance difference is like between heaven and hell.

Did you have stabillity issues even in calm days with stock FW?

I haven't had chance to test it too much without a slightest wind, but I'm certain that now is it so much better.
