Flight times seem pretty reasonable. Thanks for the responses. There has been mention of a few S800's crashing with some speculation that the ESC's are getting too hot. Have you guys been monitoring the temps on the ESC's?

Yes, I have, just today. So to me everything is ok with the temps (air temp 21°, motors and escs arround 40°). I will make a second run when it becomes hot (30°Celsius+) again.

You must have been waiting for someone to ask that question. Thanks for the video. Looks like you have your bird flying very nicely. I almost started laughing when you started taking temps while it was in the air, but it looks like it was holding still so nicely.

Maybe someone can answer this for me, why does the gimbal need to be camera specific? I know they have the NEX version and the GH2 version. I have never seen another gimbal so specific.

Does the Zenmuse use any gyros on the gimbal itself or is it strictly using the WKM for control?

It is because of the direct drive brushless servo motors used. They have only 103 oz/in full stall torque compared to other gimbal systems that have gear/belt reduction with between 500-800 oz/in torque. The Maxon brushless motors used work best when there is no static preload on them. The gimbal axis must be very well balanced. Also the moment of inertia of each axis must be quite specific for the feedback loop tuning of the gimbal in order for it to function as well as it does.

It's not necessarily a negative issue. Just nature of the beast with the motor and control system they used. For precision performance with micro motion control this is not uncommon.

If you have a WKM or Ace One you can mount a Zenmuse on a pole and get great results.

If I ever get any free time I will get the the Henseleit based ZenHeliCam mounted with a Zenmuse and post some videos.

I'll run that on 12s 10,000mah.
