Micro Bandit becomes the Micro Bullet
Well, fitting 4 servos inside the Micro Bandit was getting pretty tight, so I decided to make a delta wing so that I only needed 2 servos. It`s not an exact copy on Brian`s ill-fated Bullet effort, but it`s close enough, so I decided to dedicate the airframe to the Bullet saga.
If my servos show up today, like they are suppose to, I might fly it tomorrow. At this point the airframe weighs 27.6g, just under an ounce. AUW with 200w and 200g (7oz) thrust should be in the 115g (4oz) range.

Thanks. Glad ya like it. I've always liked deltas. This started as a conventional sport jet, but has now morphed into a delta anyway.
I've spent all afternoon soldering. I'm switching over to 2mm bullets for power leads since I'm going to be pulling almost 15a. So 6 new lipos, 2 balance/charge leads, new leads for an esc. Now charge and cycle the new cells. Maybe now I can get back to building. |

Well, after spending a bunch of time on a delta wing, fitting everything in place and mounting the wing, it turns out that there`s no way to balance this thing with the delta. It`s mainly because with the intake locations fixed in their spot, the wing can`t go far enough forward and the lipos can`t go far enough back to get the cg right.
I thought about going back to the Bandit style wing/tail, but because of ducting losses I`d end up with about 3.5oz of thrust on a 5oz jet, and that`s not my style. It would be pretty, but would also be pretty slow, and pretty hard to hand launch. So, I`m scrapping the Micro Bandit and the Micro Bullet. ![]() ![]() However, all is not lost. I was ready to build a new Nanospot to take full advantage of 4s and aprox 200w of power. So I cannibalized the Bandit/Bullet parts to slap together the first Nanospot. It will be refined with an all new airframe, but I didn`t want to let these parts go to waste. I`m done with this thread, at least for now. So join me in the Nanospot thread if you want to see a shot at the 30mm class speed record. Lee Nanospot link http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1755553 |
