Blackbird FPV Mobius Gimbal

Splash

A lightweight gimbal for mini quads

Blackbird FPV has started to make a name for themselves in the industry selling some very interesting products that make life much easier when building multirotor fpv platforms (such as the CC3D Blackbird FPV Case from Readymaderc). Their latest offering is a lightweight brushless gimbal frame designed specifically for the Mobius action camera and is perfect for smaller multirotor airframes.

Current pricing is $85 built with motors minus controller. It uses 2208 Foxtech or Lumenier gimbal motors. While their website is still under construction (Hurry up, Zach!) you can order by contacting through their Facebook page.

Below is a test video of the Mobius gimbal on a mini (Volume Alert!)

I'm reasonably sure the thing would be smaller and more compact if they, you know, only stabilized the imager via an extension cable instead of the entire thing.

The problem with that theory is the weight. Currently, gimbal controllers need the camera weight to help stabilize. The Mobius is already hard enough to stabilize versus a GoPro because it weighs next to nothing. Anything less and those who design brushless gimbals and controllers would have to rethink things to make it work well, or even work at all.

The ribbon cable to the module would have too much resistance (which of course would increase the further it was rotated).

This gimbal is a cute design though. As an aside 2208 motors are overkill for a Mobius ... 2206s would shave a little weight.
