Lightweight Aluminum Colored Covering?
Anyone know of a light Al colored covering. Solite doesn't come in Aluminum.

I don't know how picky you are, but the silver RA microlite or solite look pretty aluminum like to me... Not the polished look, but aluminum in color. Both can be purchased at www.toddsmodels.com. Solite is cheaper and comes in a pretty big roll.

JKAerotech carries silver mylar packing tape. Seems spendy at ~$25/roll but it goes a long way and is a heckuva lot cheaper than iron on coverings in metallic.

Litespan Silver
I've got some Litespan Silver from Balsa Products for a Dare Spirit of St Louis, haven't tried it yet but it will be light and dull aluminum looking.

I've seen Mark Rittinger use chrome monokote on his sp400 fighters, he scoures the covering with either a wet or dry sandpaper to get the "aluminum".
You might wanna give it a try ........ |

I covered my switchback body in SoLite silver and it looks like a dull aluminum. $10 per roll at www.mountainmodels.com and its really lightweight.

Thanks all. I think I'm gonna go with the Solite. Was what I wanted to use originally, after reading about it in different threads here, only didn't know they had silver. I even looked at Balsa Products site and it was there but of course I didn't see it!

If you can find it, Silver MicaFilm is about as shiny a silver you can find in a lightweight covering. Someday I will try painting silver over Doculam.

I use chrome monokote with a scuffed surface using a machinist scrubbie.It simulates metal very nicely...

For a SUPER cheap solution that comes out to a mirror finsh and is about as light as it gets, try emergency blankets that you find at sporting good stores. They are aluminized mylar and cost about $2.00 for a 6'x9' sheet. Use balsa lock or glue stick and shrink with a hair dryer.
