First Depron Wing

I built this wing 50cm (24") using 3mm depron in the build up fasion i have seen, when it is complete it will be 18mm thick, i have left the top off untill servos and rx go in... im still thinking what kind of motor, i will be using maybe a 2s 700 with a 3x3 prop on a 180(or something)

is a brushless little screamer to big for this wing?

Attached is the unfinished wing, 1 servo (hs 55) and the motor i mite be using,

Do you sand down the leading edge?
Where did you get the 3mm depron from and what glue did you use?

covering

the top is covered with 3mm depron,

i got the depron from a home bisnus in perth and i used 5min epoxy which was a bit heavy, but i will be getting a little screammer motor in it so it should be great and fast! =)

Good work James, did you get the Depron from Richard in Kinross? They actually run the depron-australia website. Have a look at my latest creation built from his Depron - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=311552

Very Nice,

a couple of questions...
What is your AUW?
Did you use a heat gun to help shape the top layer depron?

it doesnt look like you have much sweep if it flys you might have abit of a bumpy ride but it should still fly fine a 180 motor might be a tad bit small u should look at the J250 or a go brushless CD ROM motors they would be great for something this size if you would like to use a J250 motor but dont have one on hand do a search on aussie ebay i have one on there for sale

magnum9 thanks and yes i did get it from Richard it was a fair drive,

the construction was VERY easy and the top layer of depron just was epoxied over the stairs, no heat, no stress, just glue and taped togerther to dry, sorry not shor on the weight, im still trying to find a good motor, dont the j250 pull like 10amps?

thanks guys

James

J250 on a 4x2.5 draws around 5-6amps at WOT 3x3 draws around 7 at WOT it would make that wing hammer and you could use bigger lipolys 1200-1500's
but if you go with the 180 motor go with a 3x2 once u launch it it'll get flying alot quicker with the 3x3 you'll get more speed but more of a chance of stalling the prop i think its called check out all the 24" wings avaliable in the USA that use the GWS 50XC (180 motor)
heres a few different manufacturer's on one page http://www.slofly.com/index.php?cate...&parent=Planes

Red Depron MiniWing with RTF weight of 105g

I just posted pics, plans and build description of my miniwing here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=315680. It has managed windspeeds of up to 20mph with a full battery and has proven to be very, very crash resistant despite having only a spar and no complete filling up of the wing.

The depron you got from Richard do you still have to buy a box or can you get 3 or 4 sheets at a time?
I got some 2 years ago and you had to buy 1/2 a box at a time.

You can buy as little as one sheet as long as you pick it up from his house. I went to buy two sheets, ended up changing my mind to 4 sheets when I got there, and he gave me 7 sheets because he had some mildly damaged pieces which he didn't charge me for.
