First 500

I saw this and want to know if it is a good deal. I was looking at getting this helicopter with the electronics package that they offer with it.

Helicopter: http://www.ehirobo.com/shop/RC-Helic...duct_info.html

Electronics package:http://www.ehirobo.com/shop/p13254/C...duct_info.html

Opinions would be greatly helpful. This is in my price range also.

What kind of battery do I need for this helicopter?

And if I have a rx already is there anything else that I will need?

Are you dead set on FBL ? ...If not the Align 500e is still the best bang for the buck at only $391 for the super combo http://www.helidirect.com/align-t-re...14-p-23216.hdx .. Or you can just convert with a 500 fbl head..

Batteries for the heli you have posted or the 500e takes 6s 2600 - 2800mah

An RJX head ordered from HK and an FBL controller from Robird USA will run you around $120 to upgrade the 500e to FBL. Don't buy a clone you will end up paying more than what the real thing costs and then you will angry with yourself for not just buying the real thing in the first place. I know this from personal experience.

For the align 500e he would have to mod his tray to take 3000mah... For the clone he linked,, not sure if he would need to mod it or not. Hence why I adviced him to keep it on the safe side and go with 2600 - 2800 until he gets to know his heli better. - - - Or were you just trying to impress me - - - lol

I really would love to get a nice name brand but I just can't afford it.

Then just get the 500e and keep it FB. It flies great. Upgrade as you have money. All those electronics in the ehirobo are junk. One thing you really want starting out is trust in your equipment. That 500e kit is all quality parts and electronics.

I feel it safe to say all of us here have done what you want to do and it has not really worked for any of us.

What about a good cost efficient battery?

These will work fine as long as you're just flying sport and mild aerobatics and not hammering them. Don't go below 30% change (or 3.8v per cell) and don't charge at much more than 1C and they'll last quite a while.

The Zippy 20C are slightly cheaper but these have a better discharge rate.

The cheapest helicopter to maintain and fly I've ever owned is my Trex 550, it's also my largest.

I like the size and price if this particular helicopter but I am not a big fan if the plastic tail and blade holders. What about it having a fly bar? Is FBL the way to go now?

The FB's fly different. I don't know if you have ever flown planes before, but a FB to me FLY'S threw the sky. It naturally banks as you move from side to side. The down side is more parts to replace and winds of 15+ makes you really have to have your hands on at all times.

The FBL flies more precision. Not really floaty, but spot on. You move the stick a tad it moves a tad. I have always wanted this kind of control. I never use expo. Even when working on other peoples helicopters I have to go in and remove the expo. Down side is costly controller and programming.

I know I said I like FBL control and I do for 3D, but I also love to take my airwolf out and I get the feeling like I am really flying!

Just my two bits lol!

Congrads on your 500E.... Upgrade nothing !! Its just not nessesary with this heli or at this stage of your heli curve.
The plastic head and tail are not your average G.I Joe plastic..it's a carbon fiber plastic mix... It's actually better to have at this point in that it has more give should a crash take place.. Metal will just bend and that's that. When you get that esc.. be sure and shrink wrap those caps in place.. Other wise more then likely some where down the road they will vibrate off. ( that's about the only flaw with that heli is the esc and caps )
I really enjoyed that heli when I had it.. I would buy another Align 500e in a heart beat.. Only I have so many others now its kinda silly.
