Dumas CC Cobra Planking

Greetings All,
Well after looking at this kit sitting on my shelf for 2 years I have decided to finally build it After reading all the other reviews it seems that most have said it builds heavy, so my question is this, should I sub-plank with the supplied wood or use a balsa, or other lighter sub-plank? I am planing on glassing the hull so I would think the lighter material should work. thanks for your advice

If you can get thinner mahogany strips, that's a start, the one inch ply is fairly light, but I think most of the weight comes from the resin, many coats adds up, if you can keep the layers to a minimum, all the better. It's a small boat, the lighter the materials the less it weighs. And of course, the electronics should be light as possible too. Onward, pictures and enjoy building.

Dumas Build

I have built more than a few of the Dumas and other kits. The extra weight of double planking will help you. Build too light, it will bob like a cork and you will have to add ballast in the right places for it to run and plane correctly. I built this Dumas Runabout back in the mid 90's. This is how it looks today. Seal it correctly it will last a long time. It weight out to a little over 10 lbs.
