Ding Bat

Loosely designed around Thomas B's ... Depron Dinosaur, I have written to him to ask if he is OK with me continuing with this one ... in fact I would welcome any input from him (or anyone else) on this one

I was looking at around 900 mm wing span (or somewhere near so it will fit on 1 sheet of 6 mm Depron) it could also be done as a twin

Wouldn't be many parts to this one as I would use the "score and bend" method and only 2 servos for the elevons

Lockey

EDIT ... Motor in line, no thrust needed, also elevons in line, no up elevator needed like most flying wings, also I did not put any CF in the wings and they seemed to hold up OK

If you can't be bothered printing and cutting out the parts, contact Bob at:

I wish Stumpy, I just love doing something new (and different) I normally buy a box of 20 sheets for AUD $200 and this last me a few months

I have already printed the plan for this one, and providing Thomas is OK with it, I will post the build here, I only hope it flies as good as his one does

It was yrs ago and not too good so it's Gone !
Old low rez cam.
Plus that old PC died.
I'd have to retrieve it from a 3TerraByte backup disc.
sorry.

It was just a Fast hand tossed "CAT" like plane.

I scaled up TB's design to ~37" see pic

Your Bat looks interesting too.

Bob
Mine will be abut 34 inches, I have done it this size to get it onto a sheet of Depron in a single piece

I have also done a KF airfoil
1 ... for strength and
2 ... somewhere to mount the servo and hide the servo leads

Not sure if it will need CF spar or anything to hold its shape and for strength ?

I will make a start on the build tomorrow if I get the chance, but I can't see it taking very long to build at all ... only 3 bits of Depron, a bit of Ply and a couple of bits of clear plastic to cut out and shape

According to my working out, CG should be somewhere about here (see pics) ... to go with the front mark first and go from there

Went back down to the shed after dinner and had another couple of hours, she is now ready for maiden ... just the tail fins to put on

Weight without battery is 250 grams, add a battery 800 / 3s weighs 70 grams or 1500 / 3s weighs 120 grams ... so AUW with 1500 / 3s battery is 370 grams before paint (or finishing)

I would say ... build time ... start to finish was about 6 -7 hours

Tony, Your bat looks superb!
I recommend to start with a forward CG. Good luck!
Here is my KFm 2bat which flew quite well, but yours is more like my Pterodactyl which flies even better, so I think Dingbat will be a success.

Thanks Thomas, do you have any pictures of your bat ? it seems to fly good and as Bob says .... great roll rate, I will be happy if mine flies as well

How did you know how far back you "dare" move the CG ?
