Yeah, I had one of those. I wasn't to impressed. For $20+/- it'll do the job as long as you're not looking for 'quality' recording. I sold mine and have not missed it.

This is a great device for converting from VHS to SD cards. I just needed something simple - plug and play with no frills of editing or effects, and this device delivered.

I also ordered one of these yesterday. When I ordered, there where 3 items in stock, now it's empty. I think we have been lucky. I have talked to a guy in Canada who has one, and he says it works perfect.

It's still in the post. I'll post the specs when it arrives, I'm guessing in a week or so.

I've used several recorders and settled in on the FPV-Japan one. It really helped save my bacon...or FPV quad, today. While (trying) to fly through some cactus type plants I managed to miss all the open space and clipped one of the plants. I was recording with the FPV-Japan recorder. I simply walked out to the general area I thought I was at, reviewed the recorded video and compared against some land marks and found my downed quad in a handful of minutes. I would rate a recorder that is portable, has a built in display and can play back, fast forward, and rewind must have type features. A recorder that isn't portable and couldn't replay the crash footage without having to watch the video from start to finish, over and over, wouldn't of helped much.

Nice! Never thought about the portability of one with a screen being that useful. I have just received the Japan recorder and am going to compare it to my Lawmate. I really hate the .asf file format it records in. I have also downloaded the FPV Recorder software developed by an RCG user (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1607942) So far it looks like it works pretty good.

I just ordered one of the FPV Blackbox DVRs that multiwiicopter.com sells for my Y6 copter. I should have it in a couple days. It looks like the Japan-FPV DVR, here is a link:
