Stock tires and wheels and dirt/grass slipper is around 3 and 1/2 turns out, was tighter but snapped drive shaft

You rounded out a front hex on a 2wd car?!?! Are you tightening the wheels enough? Are you making sure they're lined up properly before tightening the nuts?

There's virtually no load on the fronts, there has to be something else wrong if you rounded out a front one.

Looking at the pictures of it online, the stock wheels look like they might be pretty soft. I would try some higher quality wheels and see what happens with them.

Run it slow in a controlled manner so that you can see if a gear is binding or skipping. A sudden load or choppy load may cause it to break stuff.
