Is 5A s/c enough for Slow Stick

I Just bought my first RC plane and have been getting great info from you guys on this forum. I chose the GWS Slow Stick. I got what I think is a newer version that has a grey gearbox.
EP-1180 / EPS-300C.
Thing is that the shop sold me a GWS 2045 Flight Pack that has an ICS-100 (5 Amp)Speed Controller. Is a 5 Amp Speed controller enough to handel the EP1180 GW/EPS-300c power unit. The kit also came with a 6 cell NICAD 600MAH Battery.

Thanks
FXF

Welcome to the EZone !!

Yes, that ESC will work fine. Just don't overprop it if you change the prop.

Sirius,

You should be fine with a 5 amp and 2 Kolkams in series. Nominal voltage on Kolkams is 3.7 per cell/7.4 for your configuration. Most of the members of my club (myself included) with slow sticks are flying 7 cell NiCad packs and 8 cell NiMH packs and 5 amp speed controllers and none of us have had any problems. Amp draw is a function of the motor and the voltage, and since you'll be running a lower voltage than I am, you should be just fine.

I also read in another post that GWS controllers are conservatively rated.

Woh wait a minute. The 5 amp draw on the 1020 Kokams is only for short bursts. Any extended amount of flying at 5 amps may damage them. I suggest that you use 4 1020 kokams, 2 in series, two in parallel. This doubles the amount of amps you can draw plus your pack only weights 3 ounces. Not to mention that you could fly for probably 45 minutes+. I have been flying my Slow Stick with two parallel qualcomm 830 packs and it works great.
