Question
Correct drill bit for slip fit

Anyone know the correct drill bit to drill a shaft coupler for slip fit on a 5mm motor shaft?

Have looked everywhere, but all I find is a #9 bit is 0.1960". But google measurement says 5mm is 0.19685 and the person whom posted the comments on a different forum says that i#9 bit is 0.1960" is a slip fit for 5mm,

I cant see how 0.1960" is a slip fit on a 0.1968" or 5mm shaft.

Thanks in advance

Hydro,

Maybe if you heat the coupler up a bit after drilling it, short of that I agree the mathematics simply do not work. Six ten thousandths is a very small difference but its still a difference.

You should have no problem using a #9 drill and some polishing to fit something to a 5mm shaft. The fit will probably be better than a 5mm drill bit. To polish after drilling, wrap a small strip of 180 grit emery paper around the end of an allen wrench and work the drilled part over the paper by rolling it across your hand until the desired fit to the shaft is achieved.

Creeping up on your desired measurement is always a good idea.
