Salangane - Performance Slope/EP Glider

All Composite 2 Meter Sailplane

Splash

2M Composite Glider

The Salangane is a great looking 2 meter glider. It's all composite and you can build it out for powered or unpowered flight using the included interchangeable nose cones. You'll need some building experience to get it together, but the hardware is there. The frame is strong and reinforced with carbon, it has plug-in wings, and a solid carbon wing joiner. It's a full house ship that will be great on the slope or hunting down thermals.

Specifications:

  • WingSpan: 2020mm
  • Length: 1185mm
  • Wing Area: 34dm2
  • Airframe weight: 950g
  • Flying weight: 1400-1600g
  • Airfoil: MH32

Looks awful Blade like,....

....a bit of a combo between the Original 2pc wing version and the more recent Carbon Blade, which sports the carbon boom.

Who is the Mfg'r?

I think I've seen the model in that build thread on a slope this year - actually flew quite well

Wide V angle

The v-tail angle looks very flat.
This plane will have minimal yaw/rudder control with the tails spread that far apart.
Pitch response should be crisp though.
I wouldn't bother with any rudder mixing because of the wide angle. You could get by with 5 servos.

Salangene Glider

I bought one of these from HK and I dont regret it one bit.... :-)

I did some research and found that it was being sold under the Osprey, banner un the UK.

I have been flying it now for around 12 months and I finally have it flying just as I wanted, with my F3F times coming down every time I get to fly a comp (twice a year) but now that our club ( Southern Slope Soares, WA AU) has got some timing gear, I imaging my time of 53.4 seconds, will start to fall.

I like the look of this glider.
Does someone know the included angle of the "V" tail?
What is the spar and joiner like? Does it seem strong?
This has been a bit of a weakness with some of the (otherwise) ok moulded planes from Hong Kong.

Most of the molded planes from over there use a lot of epoxy, and the strength to weight ratio is quite low. They still fly decently, but that is why you don't see may F3J planes originating form there, I believe.

I have been flying mine for over 12 months now, go's like a rocket and my F3F times are starting to drop, its a real tuff bird as mine has hit the ground hard a couple of times, few patches on the leading edge of one wing and all's good.

I'm not with the model at the moment, but soon as I get home, I will measure the V tail angle for you.

Thanks for that HP. I saw Singapore Hobbies have same setup recommended for the 2m Salsa - http://www.singahobby.com/?q=node/24069 .

Just took delivery of a Salangane yesterday. I hoping to use a 3S setup, however not sure if it will perform with a 1.6kg flying weight?

Has anyone flown the Salangane on a 3S setup?

Cheers

It's getting very close to complete - I had to work a lot of things around ( several iterations later - I have the best - I think ) .
Goal was to get CG correct without additional weight, and clean installation so I didn't have a ton of loose wire from the nose cone -> to the main body all over the place - so removing it for battery replacement goes easy and fast . The ESC is in the front bottom of the servo tray, 2 servos behind it -toward tail & battery mounted to servo tray extending out towards the front of the plane on top of ESC - getting close to motor up front , all electronics jammed back in fuselage Pics to come soon... .. eddie
