US F3P Team Trials, 21-23 March, Akron, OH

It has been a long time coming, but it is official that the US F3P Team Trials will take place 21-23 March 2014 in Akron, Ohio. The contest sanction and F3P Committee have been approved by AMA.
http://www.modelaircraft.org/events/...rials2014.aspx

The event will take place at the Northeast Ohio Electric Fly (NEF), more information for which can be found at:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2030329

The event will be a combined F3P contest and US F3P Team Trials. The F3P contest will take place on Saturday, 22 March, with the classes of Sportsman, Intermediate, and F3P (AP-15 Sequence) being flown. The Saturday F3P contest will be a qualifier for the US Team Trials which will be completed on Sunday (morning), 23 March, flying the AF-15 sequence.

The basic format / schedule for the event -

21 March (Friday)
5-12PM, practice, judges/pilots meeting

22 March (Saturday)
9AM - 9PM, F3P Contest

23 March (Sunday, morning)
11AM - 12PM, US F3P Team Trials

For those that participated at in December 2012 HEF in Geneva, OH F3P contest, the 2014 contest will be very similar. Tony Husak (Event Director) and the sponsoring MARCS club have allotted a dedicated flying area for the F3P contest. As at Geneva, the contest flight area is substantial in size (60x160') with high ceilings (35' minimum). Breaks during contest flights on Saturday will occur coincident to activities in the racetrack area which would potentially be a conflict/distraction to contest flights (ie, full contact combat, lights out night flying, etc). More details will be forthcoming as the F3P Committee completes planning for the event.

We are planning to have an online registration at some point. In the interim, if you are interested in entering the F3P contest and/or US Team Trials, please post in this thread, PM myself, or email me @ DaveL322@comcast[dot]net. I will maintain a list (in this forum) of the entrants for each class. The exact schedule for practice / contest flights will take into account the number of pilots entered, and planning the overall contest will be much easier if the majority of pilots register in advance.
****Update - website for entering the Team Trials - http://f3.modelaircraft.org/2015-pre-registration/
****Update - registration form attached to this post for entering Sportsman, Intermediate, and F3P (non-Team Trials). Return form to myself at DaveL322@Comcast[dot]net

If you are interested in helping out with the event (judging, scribing, scoring, etc), please let me know that as well. Jon Lowe will CD the event, and we are hoping to announce other key contest workers in the near future.

Regards,

Dave Lockhart

I will have an SBModels Excel V2 for anyone that is hesitant to participate because they dont have an airframe. Just contact me one here if you would lile to borrow the model. If your on the fence at all please consider flying in one of the classes, even if youve never flown in a contest before. There will be a lot of experienced help at the event. With quite a bit of practice time.

Excellent work Dave and all who are involved. It's really exciting to see this area of the hobby grow in the U. S.
I hope to attend.

Google map issue

Hey Dave,

I'm not going to make it out but I was curious where you guys were flying in Akron as that's where my folks were born... It ends up the Google map on the web page is pointing to north Union street instead of south... Maybe something to fix before folks start driving around campus lost...

289 South Union Street, Akron, OH 44304

As an aside, has anyone flown indoor at the Goodyear blimp hangar? Just curious.

Really looking forward to this!

To add to what Scott said there will be plenty of people there willing to help / coach people who are a bit hesitant about coming out and flying. The good thing about F3P is it doesn't cost a fortune to get started and there is a class for just about anyone.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone, quite a list so far!

To echo Scott, I will have additional SB Models airplanes with me if someone wants to participate, but doesn't have a full F3P plane available to them. Just ping me here or on FlyingGiants

I would like to check it out. I have not yet flown F3P and don't know if I have the time to get a plane together and practice before-hand but I am very interested. I have flown an indoor trainer once at ETOC last year and it was a lot of fun. I would fly Sportsman I guess.

There are a few more Columbus dome flying dates between now and then. I travel up from Lebanon and a few others come from the Dayton area. We will surely be using this for some practice time if you would like to check it out or would like some help. Where are you located?

Hey Hubb, I believe I am in your club I fly at MVRCC. I crashed at the pattern nats this year so I didn't fly at MVRCC at all, but I flew there last year a little with a 69" Yak.

My name is Joe Marri, and I live in Mason. I'd love to check out Columbus, I'm online looking for planes now. Any suggestions for a first F3P plane?
