6s flies this a beaut ;-) should be good for bungee if your familier with launching that way ;-)
I have my elev servos in the vertical stab atm but I'm going to remove them and place them directly in the horizontal stabs (like herb did)
Also gonna upgrade the fan and motor, but keeping it on 6 cells as it is plenty quick enough ;-) keep us posted as perseverance pays off with this model ;-)

Thanks Coddy, I'm pretty happy to bungee launch, although I'd love to put in a nice set of scale retracts. Without access to a concrete or Tarmac runway this would be pointless I feel and just add weight.

I'm taking my time with it for two reason, 1, I want it to be very nicely finished. 2, I keep buying other stuff so spoiling my budget for this plane!

Pleased it should be good on 6s too.

Mine flies just fine off grass with eflite 15-25 retracts and wire struts. Using pretty small wheels maybe 1 3/4 main . It helps to have 2500 watts on tap.

From threads on the Mig 15 , its known the flaps on this plane does nothing..I am building the plane light with just 6 s ..so was wondering if I can omit the flaps all together and close it shut..Will it affect performance? any landing characteristics lost etc?

Yes it will, Its getting the approach speed down enough thats a little tricky. She holds the speed up pretty good. I'm running 7S at about 2300 watts. once its on the turf it will slow quickly.

i found the trick is to extend the glide IE hold it at about 3-4 feet off the ground when coming in for a landing..that way it it sinks nicely but it always comes in a little hot..not that it bothers me ;-)

Just thought id add, that iv ordered a few bits to change out in my mig for this year.
Iv gone for a cs 12 blade fan along with a Dr mad thrust 1600kv motor and as I mentioned it before, im also moving the elevator servos into the stabs..should make for a more positive feel on the turns (I hope!)

The 8s setup in my JTM L-39 is a good system. Wemotec Midi 90mm fan with an Arc 36-75-1 motor. Performs well on 8s but can also handle 9-10s if you are looking to push the envelope. My 12lb. L-39 flew around 150-160mph on 8s and close to 175mph on 10s with that setup.

Part sourcing

I have one part to find before I can maiden my Mig.
Can anyone help me identify the name of the circled part in the picture please?
It the metal T that is held by a grub screw to the steering post.

I've tried different terms on google and failed.

It's the steering arm. Unfortunately, it's not standard as everyone uses different rod sizes, shapes, configuration (pull-pull vs. rod) etc..

Eflite use these:

SpringAirs has these sizes:
