UltraESC
Hi,
i would like to present my latest work ![]() its a new ESC based on a MCU which has a HW PWM unit especially for driving three phasis BL motors. because of that it can do high frequencys (6-128kHz), a clean active freewheeling(HW deadtime generator and complementary PWM) and the mcu dosent need to hadle the PWM .. so there is more time for other tasks ![]() i got to say that the main idea to use this HW was from ampere dieter. he faund the MCU and also the gate driver and fets. and without his knowladge of ESC's and his work this thing wont exist! the HW is based on small but powerful parts. on the 20A version 2.125mOhm N fets with fast gate drivers will be used. there will be also a 35A version with two of these fets parallel. the fets are rated with 100A and 140W peak each ![]() the software will be closed source for now .. it is planed to make it open later. (just to prevent misunderstandings.. yes the gui is based on the MWC GUI so it will and must be open source) its features for now are: - normal input PWM (50-500Hz) - 1kHz fast input PWM - MK I2C (also with I2C telemetrie) - full 11bit (~2000 steps) resolution (input and output) - jitter free PWM reading and generating (both done with HW timer) - active freewheeling with a very short and stable deadtime - Lipo protection - stall detection - closed loop - GUI Configurable (also with live datas) - USB port onboard (for a GUI and software updates) the 35A version will also have CAN HW onboard (there is no SW for CAN atm.) we have well working prototypes of the 20A version (these protos have 4mOhm fets on it so thay are rated with 15A but otherwise it will be the same thing )here are also some videos of the GUI: some active freewheeling tests:
a resolution test:
closed loop test:
some HW tests (remember the protos are 15A .. and i dont want to kill it because i dont have enough )
today warthox did the first acro flight tests ![]()
edit: here is a video that shows its motor comatibility..
the 20A version will be available at Fylduino soon .. it will cost 29,90€ incl. german tax (19%) i will update this post when i have news. a good new year at all ![]() regards felix |

Great job, Felix!
Just in spot for New Year's greetings. ![]() Can't wait to have some samples here - especially the 35A/6s version with CAN bus is looking very interesting. The USB and the GUI make your ESC a very unique product. Good to have you in the AutoQuad team! ![]() Exciting things are coming up 2013. |

with the 11 or 16 bit timer of the atmega32u4 and the atmega2560 its no big deal its just a different timer adjustment. the 1kHz signal is also the same as MWC's normal signal .. just 500-1000us instead of 1000-2000us. i just did some test versions. if the ESC is available and the MWC community is ok with it, ill add a define ![]() it should also work for the 328P's 8 bit timer .. but i dont tested it for now (it would be a waste of resolution ).regards felix |
