Nearly lost Radian at 1500ft

I took my eye off it only for only a couple of seconds maximum and could not see it at all for about 20 seconds. Very scary. Pure luck that I got it back. These guys who fly them way higher LOS must have amazing vision. My wings are nearly all black underneath too. Must be getting old....

You would think by now some smart optician RC flyer would have come up with some sort of Six Million Dollar Man style magnifying glasses by now. I'm noticing I'm starting to lose orientation at smaller distances too.

Explain to your optician that you fly RC and ask if he or she can optimize your precription for distance vision. When I got my first prescription glasses I happened to be teaching my optician's son to fly and he asked me if I wanted that done. Been doing it ever since. It works!

Orientation at 1400+ feet is an issue for me, the plane merges into a small black spot. I can see it, but don't know which way it's pointing! Taking my eye off for even a second is not an option now. I don't fly over 1000ft that often, but it's nice to do it once in a while. I wear prescription glasses, but will ask my optician about options for distance based on advice here.

They make those? Do they come in BiFocal too (Transition preferred)? I'll have to ask. I'll be needing a new prescription soon anyway.

At 1500' a Radian is challenging for anyone to see without magnification. You did well to see it at all if it was that high.

Oh wow turns into oh crap in two seconds doesn't it?
