http://www.fsone.com/products/fs-one-v2/ includes a list "What’s new with Version 2." Does that answer all your questions?

Any new updates on changes coming to fs one v2? I really like the sim but it has been rather quiet here lately.

Yes, we have many updates to get out there.
We'll try to target sometime July for this.

The best way is to join the mailing list (link is at bottom of FS One webpage).

There's going to be another update out soon. Looks like August.

Are you adding floatplanes/seaplanes to the program anytime soon?

That would be cool. But not "soon" there.

I was browsing through the threads and couldn't find this one in the list. I guess the forum hides some threads? I still love the fixed wing physics of FS One V2. It's simply the best.

Adding in DIY model maker??

Hi Michael,

I was wondering if you have considered making this available say as a 3d view so you can either modify a design to see what happens or start from scratch...perhaps from a series of standard models....eg powered low/mid/high wing, sailplane, canard, biplane etc..

The XPLane one is too hard for me as I cant visualise whats going on and the one in Reflex XTR is great interface but in German....or perhaps we could import from the likes of Profile (?) the Italian design series......or from Sketchup 3D perhaps so we dont have to relearn another interface etc...

Regards...Laurie

I translated the one in Reflex XTR into English years ago. I still have it available.
Send me an email and I'll send you the .htm file.

re: DIY model-builder; translation

Ken, good to see you here! Still enjoying the Ampeer. Yeah, German terminology looks awful funny to us anglos. But at least the words are so long that they're easy to look up online.

Laurie, making a custom model look right (Sketchup) is no problem. But the challenge would be getting the aerodynamics right. Cartoon aero is fine for FMS, but would be suicide for FS One. Apparently minor adjustments like moving the wing forward an inch, or removing a degree of dihedral, or "clipping" the wingspan, affect aero in many many ways. See http://arc.aiaa.org/doi/pdf/10.2514/6.2010-7635 for all the things that a custom modeler would really need to learn to get the aero right. There's no shortcut. (Less technically, those subtleties are why so many different full-scale aerobats have been designed, which to the layman look almost identical.)

What you can do, if you're trying to copy a particular model, is to start with one that looks similar, use the scaling wizard to resize it, and then adjust the center of gravity and the (rotational) moments of inertia. Those numbers can be adjusted (even to bizarre values) without compromising the aero because that's just moving ballast around, instead of changing the shape of the aircraft, which would change the shape of the flow field.
