TM help please

I built a standard Tm kit , added 1/16 balsa on one side of the struts, and use a 1047 prop. I am using 150mah nicads. My problem seems to be not enough power to climb. I hand launch and fly about shoulder high and descend with each turn not being able to climb back up. Any suggestions.

Switch to a 9x7 prop. Also, you didn't mention how many cells you're flying? 6 Nicad cells will give you marginal performance. 7 cells should be fine.

Another thing, forgive me for mentioning it but it just happened to me a couple weeks ago

Check the prop to make sure it's not backwards. The raised letters are on the front.

Like Tres said the 9x7 is the best prop.

If you're going to get more batteries check out the 370mah 7 cell packs from www.aeromicro.com They are a great compromise between weight, power and duration.

Bob,
A problem I encountered when I first started was that the battery wasn't charged fully. I thought it was but it wasn't, and I would barely be able to get off the ground. Same thing happened to my buddy the other day. Make sure its charged good.

The 150 Nicads are no good. Go with the 7 cell 370 Nihms. The difference is night and day.

Yeh i'd agree. I fly my TM on a 7cell pack of 300 nimh's and a 9x7 prop, seem to be the perfect combination, always getting 8 min's plus and with power to spare too Here's my TM on one of those rare British day's, it was nice

Sounds like the prop

That's exactly the way my Moth performed when I tied a 10x4.7 prop. I had just broken my last 9x7, so I decided to give the 10x4.7 a try, very poor performance. Good Luck!

thanks

Thanks for the help. Went to the field to try again and managed to get acouple minutes flight out of the 6cell 150s with the 1045 using alot of down trim.

I've never used nimh cells. whats the charge time? I saw a table that listed 1.2 hrs for fast charge.

Thanks

nimh charge

i use eflight 300 mah nimh on an el cheapo eflight fast charger
and get a good full charge in 30 minutes on my supernova i get
a good charge in about 42 minutes

my durations are longer on the el cheapo...go fiugure
i get about 8 to 10 minutes with great power and another 5 to 8 minutes at cruise around at shoulder height power

all the above times are based on throttle conservation

on no wind days just cruising at 2/3 throttle i have acheived 18 to 20 minutes duration

My Tiger Moth came standard with the 10x4.7 prop. It performed very well running on 6 270mAh NiCads. Now I use the EPS-100 and 7 350mAh NiCads. Sure makes this little plane more fun to fly.
