Suggestion
BLOG section used for advertising is BAD. Do something

I really enjoy the BLOG section of the site.
Well the real blogs at least.
For some reason the adds, both real and spam, truly annoy me.

Question... are adds allowed in the blogs?

If yes, then never mind and I'll move along

If no, then why don't you actively moderate this section??

Thanks

Ads are not allowed in blogs. Ads should be moved to the appropriate forum section. Please report any spam as well. Thanks for the post!

If you see a post that breaks site rules please report it. With over 140,000 unique users a day on the site there is no way our mods can view every post.

Here is the site policy on reporting posts:

How to Report a Rule Violation
Each post at RCGroups has a "Report This Post to a Moderator" link. Simply click on that link to report a violation of the rules. If you report a post and do not see any action within a reasonable period of time, you can escalate the issue by posting a thread in Site Suggestions / Complaints.

If you witness a violation of the law, suspicious behavior, theft, the threat of physical violence, or other illegal activity, please contact the authorities in your area. If you do so, law enforcement will typically contact RCGroups.com, LLC. We're glad to assist them.

I'm sorry to quibble, but I don't think you're really seeing the simplicity of this particular issue.

There are maybe a dozen posts in the blog section per day.

Simply have the mods check in a couple times a day.

This should take 90 seconds or less.

A few minutes longer to clean up the trash.

Where as I can only report one ad every 60 seconds.

And at the moment there are 5 ads. (Three of which I reported yesterday)

Thank you for your many reports on blog advertisements.

1) Moderators are only allowed to review posts that are reported. There are a few exceptions to this rule, but "policing the blogs" for ads is definitely not allowed. The moderation system relies on users to report content which they find offensive.

2) I have all ready filed a bug/complaint about the fact that the "no ads in blogs" rule has not been officially changed, as well as held a conference with the other moderators. There's nothing any of us can do about it, as we do not have access to change the code or text of the website. Until the rule has been officially implemented, I don't feel comfortable infracting users for something they couldn't possibly have known they weren't allowed to do. If you would like action taken on this, my best advice is to make a thread in Site Suggestions/Complaints to remind the admins. I'll send another e-mail.

Feel free to continue reporting ads in blogs. I will bitbucket them, but I cannot do anything else with them at this point.

When blog ads get sent to the "Bitbucket" are the "users" (Spammers)....
1) Told why?
2) Given infraction points??

Lastly...
There aren't real users, they sign up JUST to post there ads in the blogs. The one I looked at today had 14 posts, all 14 were blog ads.
To that end, just delete the offending account and move on.

Spam is a part of running a large site. When it is obvious that an account has been created exclusively for spamming the site the posts are warned, or the threads are moved to the bit bucket. The account is the permanently banned as a spam account. I have banned multiple accounts in the last few days as spam accounts.

Some accounts like this are RC related. Sometimes these are new users that don't understand how the site works. We try to work with users like that and help them post in an acceptable way. If they continue to spam then the account will be banned.

I hope this answers some of your questions. We appreciate your concern.

We are currently working on what rules work best for blogs. Spam is something we are always on the look out for and we appreciate when users report the spam that they find on the site.
