XPD-8 pusher prop conversion
This thread is to discuss the conversion of a XPD-8 ducted fan wing by Great Planes into a pusher prop rocket. I am 99% done with the conversion, and will post pictures and details tomorrow. I hope it provides assistance to someone doing the same type of power switch over. The hyperflow fan in the XPD-8 needs more kick. When you upgrade the motor you need more power. When you need more power the weight goes up, but even worse there is no place to put it under the small canopy. By changing the plane to a pusher prop design, the entire fuselage (which was for the fan and airflow) becomes a wonderful cavity for holding the battery, esc, car keys, whatever ! Also it lowers the CG below the wing, which should be a good thing. I cannot WAIT TO FLY IT !!!

The nose cone is made from a smooth foam egg from the craft store. You can see the magnet used to ensure it doesn't come off in flight from the airframe. The cone itself was epoxied to the ring that is for the intake. The motor is a Dons Wicked outrunner setup for 4s with a 4.1x4.1 APC prop. This same setup and battery push my Funjet to 105mph. I am very curious what it will do for this wing. The motor mount is made with adjustable thrust angle. HS-55 for the servos.
All that is left is to glue on the winglets and the aileron/elev pushrod mounts.

Flight report - SCARY AS HECK and clocked at 113mph !!!
The winglets are very delicate with the design and type of foam.
Since the plane now doesn't want to slow down for landings (due to weight), it is nearly impossible not to break the winglets off.
I am changing how and where the winglets are mounted, and queued a replacement - The wing wing z-84. Which I have high expectations for!
