1s lipos

Hi. Just had several Tenergy 1s 160 mah die after a bit of a layoff. Any recommendations for replacements? I did storage charge them, so no scolding necessary, lol, tk

Dunno Brand X or perhaps just bad luck.
Happily 1S 150/200 mah cells can be had for a little over 1$ each.

Okay, I'm interested. Link to the $1 batts?

Would I be better off to buy 4 $1 batteries or 1 (supposedly superior quality) $4 battery? (we're still talking about 150 mAh)

In my experience it doesn't matter what brand you buy for the tiny 1s. Some will last and some won't no matter how well you treat them. So just buy some cheap ones like Turnigy and call it good.

Depends entirely what load you put on them.

Because for a single cell an extra voltage drop of 0.1V under load is a significant % of cell voltage you may want to spend the money on Hyperions or Thunderpower if performance is important. These two at least in my testing hold their voltage better since they have lower IR.

For nearly all my indoor flying the current draw is modest and absolute performance is not the issue so the cheaper Turnigy's do fine. AFAIK there is no accurate data on the cycle life of these little critters but they are so cheap I have a decent supply and mine will die of old age not over-exercise.

FWIW the older $1 HobbyKing Zippy's were pretty awful, the current $1.50 160mAh Nanos are a lot better.

They are all in this list somewhere

Paying more doesn't mean you get better cells. The EFlight cells supplied with the Parkzone stuff are the worst 1S I ever tested.

Hi,

Which lipos do you recommend for heli Nano cpx (brushless mod).

I have used stock eflite and turnigy lipos. Both are ok but nothing special.

Whats is the review on Xtreme 1s lipos available at helidirect?

Regards

Doc

I've used the Thunder Power 1S 160mah in my mSR and mSRX. I didn't find any noticeable difference from the cheap Turnigy batteries that would justify the extra cost. At $9 for one ThunderPower vs $1.50 for one Turnigy I would rather buy 6 of the Turnigy for the same money.

I'm with grim on this. The Turnigy Nano 160 is about as good bang for the buck as you will get.

It does depend a bit on the current you pull though.

I tested the Thunderpower, Hyperion, Turnigy and Turnigy Nano 160s three years ago. The thread is here.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1317668&page=4

In practice I am still using some of those cells and the Hyperions are the ones which still put out a reasonable performance.

I don't normally stress them much though as they are used for indoor flying. The guys who really push the small cells are the micro EDF fliers and most of them seem to use the Thunderpower 65C series.

For what it's worth, my observation is that the battery BS factor (and claims of C rating) goes up through the intended market range of Fixed Wing, Helicopter, Car.

Thunderpower only has 25C for the ultra micro. I will stress since cold weather is coming that the <250mah size do fall completely flat when cold. However since they are small they do warm up easily in your hand.
