Ldm,
Bethpage polo field is a top 10 venue to rly r/c from!!!! the polo field is large enough for the biggest models to fly from, perfectly groomed, the grass is cut to close to putting surface flat. behind the flight line is a group of shade trees that keep the area cool and comfortable, and the hosting club does a wonderful job of making all flyers feel welcome and at home... there are also many benches with tables to sit and share time and converse with fellow r/c nuts. they also serve fresly cooked food all day. don't miss this event, swing by our easy-ups, have a seat and enjoy some friendly low stress good times!! heres a video we shot from the nose of a Stryker with a hk videocam!!

or move the battery as far forward as possable and check your CG to make sure its right . the only drawback with the lower amp battery is less flight time . im running a 4000mah battery and im getting 4.5 min flight time with a few speed passes adding one min to land so im around 5 n half mins of fying . so im guessing your going to get a min less flight time. the good thing about this plane is that you can fly it to a crawl ,i have flown it at 1/4 throttle and she putts around smoothly , so you can use the lower amp battery just to do slow fly byes. |

on the other side of that i'm flying my Skyraider with 5000 mah 25c batteries and with them pushed as far towards the nose as possible, they balance this bird perfectly..i extended the battery tray to the firewall with a piece of balsa added some velcro for security, and she flys like a 60 sized low winged sport plane.....this plane has no bad habits at all. here's a video of my Sandy flying and landing. you can see she's not nose heavy in the least by the way she lands........

As my club member stated do not use a 6cell battery the motor cannot handle the volts.unfortunely i wasnt able to make it to the runway i got as far as the gravel (ABOUT A FOOT AWAY)where it landing hard on the retracts bending one and breaking another,.the good thing was there was no damage at all to the plane itself .so i am out on motor and retracts .ive decided to go with a single prop so now i have to look for a motor, any recomendations will be greatly apriciated.

I went with an emp/turnigy 5065-380kv and have had great success with it, I have posted a video of mine with the stock prop earlier in this thread or it's on my blog. If you decide to stick with the stock motor and your prop adapter is still good pm me I have two stock motors but no adapters. Good luck getting her back together, this bird has become my favorite and I put over forty flights on her last week alone.

I'm using the stock four blade but I've tried a cut down 18x10 apc prop, cut to 15", and I've tried a 15x14 zinger wood prop. All 3 set-ups were on 6s and all three have similar climb rates but the two blade props were slightly faster which I found unnecessary as even with the stock prop the majority of my flight is at half throttle or less.

It is probably not the 'volts' it couldn't handle, but the total WATTS. (resultant of higher Amps the higher Volts cause).
Was this a 4S stock plane? Then a move to 6S is a lot more power, and would likely be more than required. eg if it was a bit slow on 4S, 5S should do. 6S would make a rocket! (if the motor could handle it). Volts rarely kill motors, but the Amps do it. (within X cells of reason. ie 10S voltage level would then be in a region of killing it just via volts due to wire insulation breakdown - let alone the Amps that would also cause) 6S would likely work IF you changed to a much lower output prop. Lower pitch, or diameter (or both). Thus reducing the power (Watts) output of it. You might choose this manner if you had lots of 6S and no 5S. Otherwise, use 5S on the stock prop. |

Peter,
do you have a Skyraider? MN, i beat you to the prop adapter!! i have been looking to buy one, but nobody has had them in stock for months.... i am planning to throw this one on a lathe and make it flush all the way to the bottom, removing that bump so i can run the stock prop on one, and experiment with other props using the 2nd one that i am going to modify. i'm going to try a 16x8 3 bladed prop, a 16x8 apc electric prop, along with a few others also. |
