i just purchased a new long ez 380 and modified it to hold a multiplex permax bl-480 3g 3,3:1 brushless motor, i was wondering what is the best performance to flight time battery to use. The airplane weighs about 30 oz and i am using a 9x6 apc prop. i have heard a bout a 3 cell lipo but need help any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Get something in the 2,170 to 2,200 range at 25C, that is best because you can use them in most 40"-45" planes. Also, that small baby needs some weight up front. The Permax BL 480 is no light weight.

You need to find out what the amps will be with the motor at full throttle, then buy a pack that will be at its 15C amp rating.

Using a motor calculator will help determining the size of the pack. Finding out the motors maximum amps at full throttle determines what C rating the pack needs to be.

Buy a pack too small and your flights and possibly the battery life will be too short. Buy a pack too big and you will be carring extra weight not needed, but your battery should last a long time.

Always use the 80% rule of discharge and set the LVC at 3.2 volts or higher on the Lipo pack....

Hey where did you find a Long-EZ electric?

Sounds like you need a big 3-cell Lipo... maybe even more... 4 cells are not uncommon on planes that size. You really need to get a power meter when you're messing around with high-power planes like that... it will tell you if you have enough power, and it will also tell you if you have too much, before you melt things.

Oh that looks nice, but seems to be out of stock. I asked because I'm planning to build one myself. But mine will be foamy... possibly just a profile.
