Question
Sell or store long term

I have two motors just sitting in a drawer (like many others). Well I dropped one and broke a few threads off the muffler port (three) on the head. Now I am debating if I should sell or store them long term (RC hording I guess).

This is what I have
1) OS Surpass 70 FS - I loved this engine it always ran great. This is the one I dropped. I also cant get parts to repair it .

1) OS MAX 60 - This one was hardy run at all. I need to find a remote needle for it (I was going to buy one off hobbyKing for like $10)

I don't expect to need them for at least a year of so. So sell or store is the question.

I have never sold an engine online , if I sell them what could I reasonably get for them ? (I would be happy with $90 for both).

To store them long term I was thinking of cleaning, adding marvel mystery oil and vacuum bagging to remove as much air as possible.

I would love to get your thoughts.

The 70 can be repaired I believe. Clarence Lee does that type of repair and I think he is reasonable price. A phone call, as far as I know he doesn't have email, would be in order before sending it off to him.

Storing an engine for a year is nothing! I had an engine in storage for about 20 years. Your vacuum bagging idea is a very good idea. You can't replace, even used, either one of those engines for $90. Keep them both.

Ken

I tend to hoard RC stuff so I may be a bit biased

I store all my motors, Don't even oil them unless I used high nitro. 100 will fit on a shelf. I check to make sure they turn over nicely every once in a while, and the throttles move, if they have one. If you get Clarence to fix your motor, I would do it soon. Not a lot of people will do this, and he is getting up in years. I have put in helicoils on a few motors, but to get the tools for every size thread would add up. Clarence is the guy for now, seems to have a good rep, and a lifetime of experience.

It is a pretty thin wall to re tap. It would need a spot face and a short helicoil. (maybe a stepped insert made up.) Not sure it would be worth paying someone for it. It is a good project for a hobbyist. How much is a new head? Some guys have a silicon sleeve at the motor so those things don't happen. Maybe something like the next size up thread and a pressure fitting type thing could be made up? Just thinking (typing?)out loud.
