I am looking for people who are into quadcopters in the NY area. I live on Long Island and thought it would be cool to get a group together for 2013.

I am new to quad's thanks to the new wave of micro's that opened the door for me. I am trying to learn as much as I can. I just ordered the Blade MQX and I will be ordering the Heli-Max 1SQ next month, I am using the DX-7 for all my flying.

If you like quads please post a comment and maybe we can fly together!'

I'm in the Albany area, maybe with enough interest someplace downstate ( New Paltz give or take a few thruway rest stops )?

I have one scratch built, a v929, and another box of parts on the way.

Thanks for replying, would love to see your v929 build. I have a mQx on order and I am looking to a building one from scratch, not sure which kit to get.

New Paltz area would be great for a fun fly get together, hopefully we can get a few more people interested. I am planning on attending a few indoor events here on Long Island this winter.

Looking at google maps I might have a location to use. Turns out I have family on the other side of the mountain ( closer to New Paltz than I thought ). 90 acres of fields, forrest, and creek beds. Might be a little out of the way, but we would have plenty of room to play and could probably even get power.

As for building.. personally I would recommend DIY frames until you are through the crashing phase of learning. Frames are cheap, but DIY will give you more opportunity for stick time rather than waiting on arms or plates to be shipped from china.

I'm interested. I'm in Fishkill/Beacon, NY. Not too far from Poughkeepsie. I have a DJI F450 w/ naza + FPV. Will be building a hex in the spring.

Cool I think that makes 4 with interest. I'll start nailing things down in January.

It's January and I have secured permission from the owner to have a gathering. What month starts feels right to get this going. I'm thinking May would be a good time, not Memorial day weekend but one of the other three. Maybe first Saturday 4th and with second Sunday 12th as a rain day?

If you look on google maps you can see it's an old farm, we would have access to the small and large fields bordering the unmarked road ( aka, one of the driveways ). Neither field is farmed anymore so there will be varying heighs of grass, there is a creek, a cave, and the property extends a ways into the woods.

May is clear on my calendar.

A couple of questions:

• What sort of facilities does the site have? (Restrooms? Electricity? Etc?)
• Will cooking be allowed on site? If so, how? (Open pit fire, BBQ grill? Etc?)
• Overnight camping for those coming a distance?

I have a 7500 watt 220v/120v gasoline generator. It could easily power a great many chargers, but it's LOUD.

Bathrooms. I will nail this down, but there are two houses on septic systems that we will have access to. Barring a portajohn this is probably the biggest limiting factor. Depending on interest I will look into this further. I had my wedding on the properly with 100 people, but we had 2 portajohns for the guests. If it's cheap enough I might spring for one just to keep the house foot traffic down.
Electricity. Either a line from or a table next to the houses. Generator could come in handy on the back field if the stream bed is passable by car.
Cooking. Yeah, no problems there. As long as the fire department doesn't show up I doubt anyone would care. We BBQ all the time and I have seen open fires on the property as well.
Camping. Probably not, the problems would be bathrooms and water. Maybe after the first one it would be easier to talk camping logistics for future ones.

Honestly I never expected this to draw a huge crowd, if I got a dozen flyers the first time I would be shocked. I've also never been to an organized event, have no idea what people might expect.

Hi everyone. So this could be our NEAT Fair in May ( without vendors). Keep us posted for the flying day or plans you may have. I mostly fly planes, just got a micro quarts ( v929) during christmas.
