LED Question

How does Hobby Kings High Intensity LED Strips compare to the 5050 LED Light Strips? I'm building a Eluminator Flying Wing for Night Flying.

Thanks
Bobby

Hi,

Brightest I have found are 5050's.
I buy the 5050 RGB non waterproof 5 meter
rolls from Ama---.---.

I custom soldered my dozen or so EPP flying
wings for night flying.

By using RGB rolls instead of single color strips
I can cut to length and pick any color I need and
even mix between them since there are connection points
for all three colors and of course positive, 12 volt.

A few mixed colors I use a lot:

Orange is Red and Green with a 330 ohm resistor

Purple is Red and Blue with a 330 ohm resistor

Mostly I use receiver controlled on/off switches and get 12 volt
power from balance plug, 3s battery. I get female balance plug
extension and wire into LED switch and embed this female plug
into the foam next to the flight battery so the male balance plug
from the flight battery just plugs into it.

If you use a receiver switch with a different battery for LEDs
they need common ground wire.

Sometimes I use 4s flight battery but need only 12 volt,
3s for my LEDs, so I use a 4s female balance plug, same as above,
but only wire to 3rd cell wire..... works fine if you
charge your batteries with a balance charger to restore each
cell. Been doing this for 6 months on several flying wings
and batteries are OK.

Sorry for the ramble......back to the question....5050s are the
way to go if you want brightness.

I like EPP foam wings for embedding LEDs.

I try to only embed LED strips on bottom of wing....
some facing into the foam to light up the entire wing and
some facing out ....of a different color so I can tell
bottom from top. I also like white on the leading edge only.

As of today I have CrashTestHobby EPP wings.
Grim Reaper model is awesome.
