definition of various struts

Hi Folks,

I've searched for this info but can't get a clear answer.

Specifically I'm interested to know what you call the types of struts used on a Piper J-3 Cub. There is the pair of long struts that run diagonally (when viewing the front of the airplane) between the fuselage side and the midpoint on the wing underside. Then there are the smaller vertical struts that run from the wing underside down to the longer struts at approximately their (the long struts) midpoint.

Any info would be appreciated. I've been wanting to clarify this for a long time. I actually did a google search and found both interplane and cabane on wikipedia, but the articles talked only of biplanes. So I'm still unclear.

Thanks!
Gene

Boy some people ask some weird questions,

But that's the fun in searching

Have a look down this list -

http://univairparts.com/pdfs/Catalog...perJ3-PA11.pdf (note it's a .pdf file).

I used a ctrl+f search on the word strut, and found pages 52 and 53 refer to some wing struts. Could it be the 'Jury Struts' mentioned on page 53, bottom left ?. One does mention having a pitot tube which I think is on a vertical strut.

The verticle ones are called "Jury" struts.

And I believe the diagonal ones are called lift struts. Because they react the lift forces back into the fuselage and prevent the wings from folding.

I learned the full scale landing gear is only a little more expensive than the Robart scale gear?
