Yep, the D630s do have the 1394 ports. I just gave away my Dell Precision laptop to my brother so the only laptop I have with the firewire port is my daughter's old Inspiron (Centrinoprocessor) but that one is barely capable so we might use yours unless I pick up another Precision before the contest. I had planned on it anyway, but was waiting for the co. to start slashing prices a bit more due to the leveraged buyout and consequences of customers leaving.

I've got some ideas to make the experience wothwhile for viewers beyond the typical fixed webcam view.

Oh, how are you allocating lanes? I imagine some type of drawing? If so, can we do it "sooner the better"? That way I plan the logistics a bit better.

We can even broadcast the lane lotto for another test.

I will assign the lanes this weekend. No need to broadcast it - it's pretty boring...

I've updated the second link to give an idea of the equipment and providers used to do this so that others may follow for major events.

I'm going to a club contest tomorrow and will be test running the c920 webcam setup with the jetpack to see how it works. I'll be streaming hd for an hour and sd for the rest.

I am at the Torrey Pines Gulls monthly contest in Encinitas and will be broadcasting once things start going. 50% signal strength and I have d/l speed avg of 6mbps and u/l avg speed of 13 mbps. Should be good enough for high quality video.

So go to livestream.com and search for F3J and you should see the TPG test.
Appreciate all comments so please leave feedback!

Thanks Tuan!

Very cool!

This is going to make a huge contribution to our hobby! I can envision interviews with pilots of all levels, allowing the rc soaring world to meet each other, to see new models, to take close ups of equipment and all sorts of cool things they'd only get to read about or hear second hand.

Thanks a bunch, this is a big deal ;-)

Hi Gordy, how are things with you! My wife actually thinks it'll be kool too.
I'll need a little input from the community regarding the audio. Here's the sceanrio... I will have 4 wireless lavalier microphones and 1 wireless handheld (not including mics from the cameras themselves, which I am still debating about leaving them open or not, leaning on not).

With the handheld I do plan on using that to do interview when I or someone else is available to walk around and interrogate the participants. That leaves the 4 lavs to do:

Plan A: mic up 4 pilots at a time and leave all 4 mics open so eveything captured by their mics can be broadcasted.
Plan B: still mic up 4 pilots at a time, but only feed 1-2 mics into the stream at a time.

Plan A is where I am leaning, but I can imagine there could be a possibility of too much audio going on so viewers may be completely confused about who is talking and what they are talking about.

What does the community want?
