Build Log
Uss raleigh c-8

started turning this project from planning to materials this last week or two, yes its hull with gun sponsens, yes its going to be a two piece mold and a few other things I said I wouldn't do again, The plug for the hull has been shaped and will get an epoxy filler coat to harden it up and seal it. primer and bondo then can be safely used.. the sponsens and other details will be added, once everthing looks good the hull halfs will be separated and molds made.. (hopefully in a week or two) with some minor adjustments to the hull the USS Cincinnati C-7 can be built.. 1/96th scale, the hull is approx 39 inches LOA, not having a large superstructure and being a coal burner the models displacement should make things easy..

the plug was coated with expoxy, given a quick sand to knock off any high points and to rough up the surface.. then everything was given a good coat of bondo.. it all gets to sit for a few days and then the sanding starts,, meanwhile work goes on the componates that will be added to the basic hull plug..

side gun sponsons have been added and then gooped in place well with bondo, one side recieved some basic sanding to shape and a quick shot of primer to point out all the spots that need more work.. still have to add the small aft sponsons and the inset pair in the bow..

more sanding, then a few coats of gloss paint to top it off.. then the big step of splitting the hull halfs down the keel as planned, somedays the plan works, now to mount them to flat plywood, seal the edge, wax, pva and lay-up glass+resin to make the molds..
