Set to dsc. to 3.3 per cell at 5A

Actual LVC for a 3S would be 9.9V .
Start Dsc. and when 3S reachs 9.9 Dsch. ends.

Set Dsch. Reduce to 10%

Start same Dsch. now when 9.9 is reached under a 5Aload the dsc.is reduced same as a charge is normaly reduced until the 9.9V is reached under a reduced discharge of 10% of 5A or 0.5A.

Hey Charles if the icharger storage voltage is 3.91 and the turnigy goes down 3.8v now I tend to parallel charge so mixing pack from storage voltage seems a bad idea ?.

.1V differential on 3S lipolys is absolutely inconsequential and the packs can very safely be connected together in parallel with zero ill effects.

Much higher differences have been empirically proven to produce no issues so you've nothing to worry about.

They are TrustFire TR18650 2500mAh 3.7V (Protected, Lithium ion)

I have given google a pretty good work out on this, but still i'm not 100% sure.

Question is, Should I charge them as LiPo, Lilo, or Life ?

What I have found is: Best to charge them at 0.5C...
A German forum suggested charging them as Lithium ion not as LiPo.
But... the battery indicates 2.75V as low cut, 3.7V Nominal, and 4.2V high cut.

Sounds like a LiPo to me...

I charge mine to 4.2 volts on lipoly setting.

Charging a .5C will leave the comfortably undercharged as they typically have pretty high internal resistance, especially with the protection pcb being part of the circuit.

I just connected my iCharger 1010B+ to my computer. Data logging with Logview works fine, except that it only logs data every two seconds.

Is it possible to get a higher data log resolution? Like 0.1s would be nice.

I need a little help with hooking an external load for discharging.
I have searched, but I am getting a lot of non-relative results... too many for me to sift through.

A simple wiring diagram with load limits would be excellent!
Or maybe some links to where this topic has been covered before?

I am currently building my own stand alone discharger... I was just hoping to be able to possibly use the brains of the iCharger to more closely monitor/control the batteries I am discharging.

There is an "LiXx monitor" mode where you can use the iCharger to monitor the per-cell voltages without it being part of the discharge process. See around p18 of the manual.

Lithium battery in monitoring mode
When you use other devices to charge or discharge Lithium pack, the iCharger can monitor each cell‘s voltage, battery temperature, charge time and so on, if one of the batteries appears over-charged,over-discharged, over-hot, over-capacity or over-time ,the iCharger will alarm with noise “Di…..” and blink the related information.

Perhaps that is what you are seeking?

If you are interested in maximum capacity, charge as LiPo.
If you want maximum life expectancy, charge as LiIon.
Every 0.1V less doubles the life expectancy.

Mark and Julez, thank you both for the replies. Guess I was just being over cautious. I was just afraid of exploding the battery, by charging it with the wrong battery type.
Today, I started charging a 2S pack that I made up. I set the charger to Lilo mode and 1.2 amps. After about 20 minutes I stopped the charge because I the temperature slowly increased from about 20 C to about 25 C. If I saw a Lipo do that, I would probably freak out and throw the thing outside by the lead. LOL .

Julez, thank you for the graph! I'll stick with 4.1V

Mark, do you notice a temperature rise when charging yours?

This might be the simplest way to go...

I do have a way to monitor pack voltage with an alarm with my discharger... this would be an excellent way to double check the new system with the first few discharges to make sure everything is working as it should.


After all this time; kgfly, Julez, and Charles are still the "guardians" of this thread.
