Learjet 23

The Learjet is a stable slow flyer using 2 GWS EDF-50s, Pico Rx, Pico servos for flying stab & ailerons, GreatPlanes 10A ESC and 350mAH, 7.2V nicads for 2 min. flights. WS: 38" WT: 12.2oz. WL: 9.16oz.

I found that setting 2 deg. engine down thrust has proved too much in opposing 2 deg. positive wing incidence. Full power only pushes the nose down, while at half power she flys very nice.

My question is: Is there a rule for setting EDF fan thrust angles that are different from fuel powered prop engines?

I'm planning a Boeing 727/100 using twin GWS EDF-75, or EDF-50s. I'd like to set the fan thrust to perhaps "0"deg., or make it adjustable.

Wow!

Exactly what I'd like to build next! Can you pleasepleaseplease post some construction photos? I'm assuming that everthing is stringers and formers. If so, you have done a marvelous job of avoiding the "starved horse" look. Cool cool.

To EDF Newbie & Skyhawk:
An actual plan on one piece of paper does not exist at this time. Flying Models Magazine is interested. I have 20 flights so far and I'd like another twenty using 9.6V, 750mAH niMI cells in order to get some extended flight times to really evaluate its performance.

I have 2 construction photos, but I don't see a way to attach them in this reply. If I have to, I'll put them on a new thread.

The Learjet plans were scaled from a Testors plastic model and the 727 will be done the same way.

David...please give us some specs. That is a gorgeous design! Have you considered using some LiPoly's in it?

Thanks for the complement. The Learjet specs are pretty much as origionally posted. I've never bothered to figure out the scale.

My son is pushing me to try LiPolys, but after 40 years of trusting nicads, I'm only beginning to look at niMHs. I appreciate the suggestion.

Listen to your son...1200Mah Kokam's (2 cells, 7.4v) only weigh 1 3/4oz and would probably yield 10-15 min flights!

TO zbrubaker:

WOW! 1 3/4oz. The Learjet will be tail heavy and loose 1oz. Glad I put in a long battery tray. And I just ordered 2 NiMi packs. Think I'm gona bypass NiMI technology.
Thanks.

David,

Do you know which rotors your using in the EDF50? Is it the stock rotor, or did you 'upgrade' to one of the other ones?
