Complete a project in 2014: BE2c
After a few years break from modelling, I'm back in the swing again and decided to design my own BE2c, an aircraft I've always loved since the days of the tv series 'Wings' back in '77. To me, this aircraft summarizes 'WW1 aviation' like no other.
Not a super-scale model by any means - though the scope for fine detail on this particular prototype is massive - so it's a sports scale 'recognisable as a BE2c' standard I'm aiming at; I will not be hand-stitching fabric panels!
One thing I wanted though was to use totally scale outlines, so I've used the 3-view from the Windsock BE2c datafile and enlarged it in Adobe Illustrator to 42", which is a nice handy size then, instead of printing it out like any sane person would do, I've taken measurements off Illustrator and drawn the plan on paper. Don't ask me why, I just like doing it this way - old school, with pencil and eraser.
All built-up construction based on my knowledge of previous builds of similar models, though I'm undecided as to whether to stay with flat-bottom wings for simplicity or go the whole hog and make undercambered wings. Been a long time since I built any undercambered ones so I may do it just for that reason and the hope that, even at this small size, it will fly slower as a result.
Currently at this stage; bare fuselage bones, tailplane, fin and rudder. Tons to do yet Look forward to this contest giving me the spur to carry on with the build (and to tidy up my limited workspace).
