Question
Fatshatk; not so impressive?

Goggles seem to be a big thing in FPV? at my club they wonder why I have a monitor and don't just buy some goggles. I have to admit they're quite less bulky than a monitor, especially if you clip it to your transmitter or somewhere so it's ON you.

However, I recently had a chance to put on some Fatshark goggles and I really wasn't all that impressed by it. Less easy transition from sight to FPV is a minor thing, but I really didn't like the tiny screen in it.
It doesn't feel like you're "in" the plane, more like in a movie theatre, because you're in a pitch black room with a small square screen further away..

The monitor just gives a bigger viewing area and so, more immersion for me.

I don't know which goggles they were specifically but probably the ones from HobbyKing.

What are your thoughts?

I have both (Fatshark Attitudes and 8" monitor)...And have to admit that I am using the FS less and less. For me it is the transition from FS to plane when I am about to land that is disturbing... On a sunny day it is like going from night to day and trying to find the plane for landing. And also the "in the plane feeling" as cantremember mentioned.
So I am thinking of getting an even bigger screen (maybe 11") when the one I have is getting old. The FS I will sell I Think since I hardly ever use them anymore.

Land with the goggles on. Landing is part of the flight experience. That being said, use whatever is comfortable for you.

The newer versions of FS have a narrow field of view, the old ones (the ones I use) have a FoV of 45 degrees and it gives a wonderfully immersive image.
I thing the latest model of FS went back to the large FoV and I'll probably upgrade to it sooner or later.

A guy at my field has a 24" LCD in the back of his SUV he uses for FPV. Looks so much better than goggles.

Why not try 'Bobs Eco Goggles' or the Hobbyking Quantum goggles.

You cannot beat this, Mareks DIY Goggles.
and the 5" with much better monitors are coming:-)
Way ahead of the current 3.5" monitors used.
(check my Blog for images). All these DIY Goggles have
a lot bigger FOV then your FatSharks....

If you are willing to pay a lot more, these
Goggles use a bigger cleaner L.E.D. monitor.

What are your thoughts?

What monitor are you using?
How are you mounting it? on your RC Tx?

I'm willing to pay more for a better screen, but those things really cost $600 and don't even include the transmitter?

That seems like quite a distance from the budget version and it's unclear to me where the price difference is going. Small LED screens are not *that* expensive.
