Laddie’s LOCKSPEISER LDA-01

I just finished building the scale model of British utility aircraft LOCKSPEISER LDA-01
As some of you know, I like unusual looking planes. This one fit’s the bill. Simple lines and canard.
I drew the plans for it several years ago. Originally I was going to build the model from the balsa and plywood. This days, I built several models using the foam board sheets. So I modified the old drawing to replace balsa for foam sheets. The model has 48” wingspan. The flying weight is 2.5 to 3Lbs. The motor is Turnigy D3536/9. The maiden will be done in Spring.

Yes, you do like Odd ball planes!! Where do you find your inspiration?

How about this plane? Looks like it might make a good model. Note the wings are swept forward.

Well done!

I have always liked the LDA-01. I did a Rubber FF Bostonian in 1985 that did well under power but was tough to trim for glide. A tree ate it and broke my heart.

Here is the entry for the aircraft from the 1980-81 Jane's Aircraft. Note that the LDA-01 was a 70% scale prototype of a aircraft that never materialized.

The inspiration is in the collection of more then 10000 three views I have. Here are some of the planes I build and fly. The Spruce Goose and Dornier Do-X are over 10 years old. So many planes still to build, so little time.

I am glad that you mention poor handling in the glide mode. I will fly high when I turn off the motor to check behaviour in the glide mode.

Yes, I've built one of your designs: The Canadian Bug.

Sold it back in 2006 or so. Need to build another one someday. You are a great designer, thank you for doing what you do.
