Oh sure, others will try and say this and that, but "THIS IS THE PLACE" !!!!!!

Dont mean to brag, but yeah, its the best spot in the world!

There was a reported weed in the grass sighting at one point, but the sod farm took care of it!

Bad news is that Utah is no longer taking applications from Californians or New Yorkers!!!!! Sorry.........
Sweet field but the only problem is I only see planks!

Lots of people, but no beer - worthy of that name. That is probably why Joe left.

Ohio is the only place I've ever seen the air conditioning kick on in the house when there's still snow on the ground.
Hey...I resemble that remark!! I bet I'm the best darned armchair DLG pilot in the country! Had the A/C on in the car this weekend and back in longjohns (thermal underwear for those not in the know) today.
My vote is SD for soaring year round, but we do have great summers here in Ohio.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side, but it's sure fun "climbing the fence!"

* get out and travel...

Let me just note that beer quality was DEFINITELY on the "stay in SoCal" side of the good/bad evaluation ledger...

Any flying field that is within driving range of Stone brewing is a very good flying field!

On a more serious note, this well traveled flier has seen many great flying sites all around the world. One of the very important aspects of the "best place" definition is the capability of flying with other like-minded individuals. I'd assign ratings to the following factors:
1) number of flyers in the area that are keen on your discipline
2) number of days per year that have good flying weather
3) suitability/quality/access of the local flying field
4) number of comps in the area (if you are inclined to fly contests)

I vote against southern Ca. If you look at the number of places you could fly 10 years ago and compare it to what we have now, in another 10 years there will be no place left. 50% of the slopes I flew at are gone, 50% of the thermal fields are gone, what is left is mixed up with electrics, and anytime I try to fly on some field I happen to find I get chased off.

I'll probably be in AZ in a few years at the latest.

20-25

year round flying

3) suitability/quality/access of the local flying field
long drive for me

4) number of comps in the area (if you are inclined to fly contests)
11 by SCSA and ~3-4 by HKRCSS, so that's about 15 comps local each year
