Brushless for this model?
Hi there folks!
I decided to go brushless and, since it will be my first attempt, I need some of your kind advice.
This is a 3m glider loosely based on M. Drela's Bubble Dancer (the wings are S3021, the outer panels come from a deceased Dynaflite DayDream, and the rest is scratch built). The whole thing is around 1300g, well beyond the 850g of the original BD but it flies nicely.
I'd like to know the specs of the motor, battery, ESC and propeller, for nose mount or power pod.

I am in the planning stages of fitting out an AVA Pro E that is on the way. Cost is an issue to me and most of the high end motors are very expensive. The next concern was the inside diameter of the nose and lastly the total mass of the model.
For the above reasons I have decided to try the Hyperion GS2218-10.
It is light, compact and will deliver up to about 550watt in an emergency. It might not give me vertical climb but all I need to do is reach about 200m altitude in about 25 seconds.

No need for a rocket ship.
For casual flying, about 50watts per pound or about 150-200watts total for your sailplane will be just fine.
If you run a 3s at 20 amps, or 2s at 27amp, you will be fine.
For prop something around 10/8 to 12/6 max, as a guess.
Several free online caculators to help with your prop, motor and batteries.

Unless you are in a rush, take your time. You will learn much and make a better decision, the first time.
I would also be considering how I would mount the motor.
Easy option is to cut off the nose, slap a bulkhead on and mount it. Ulgy, yet works.
More work yet nicer option would be to cut nose, in a way to mount the motor and build up around it along with flaring with the spinner, around the motor and the fuse. Lots of theads here on RCG.

sure, I'm a total newbie, I'm still reading all that I can and learning how the whole thing works, not only the motor, also the batteries and ESC. until now, never before heard of kv, C's, etc...
anyway, I own a couple of gliders, the one pictured is the biggest. Should I fall short, it will be useful for the smaller ones.
