Nice! Just picked up the materials for a 36" span P-51, balsa build with a foam core wing.
Yet another scratch build from plans although I am using a different airfoil than what is on the plans, using NACA 00 series airfoils.

Anyone have any suggestions on getting the t28 motor to mount to a firewall? I got that plastic piece which the motor mounts to from the 28 but when I line it up to the firewall it's bigger and screw holes don't line up. Also it seems if I mount the motor directly to firewall there is a piece on the motor that spins, on the backside. Is that every motor? Keep in mind this is my first time doing this.

I'm about to take pictures of firewall.

That's the piece I'm trying to mount the motor to.

If I'm leaving out any information let me know.

I was thinking of gluing that plastic housing to the wood then just have the motor mount like it normally would. I just get nervous during high G turns and suck that the bond will sheer apart mid flight.

is the piece that spins like a ring or collar connected to the shaft? if so, that is normal. if i were you, i would put a piece of plywood behind the foam firewall, glue it in place, then use woodscrews to attach the motor mount to the plywood. the woodscrews should go through the foam firewall, like to clamp it.

use M3 screws to attach the motor to motor mount, woodscrews to mount the motor mount to the firewall.

Yeah...

I need to find a metal housing that will attack to that firewall that will allow for that shaft to spin.

The plastic housing stock from the 28 is a tad bigger in diameter than that wood firewall. That's my problem I'm trying to solve.

The hobby shops here don't carry motors so I got to order them which I don't want to do and wait another week...

They sell motor mounts, I just have to go d the correct measurements from the parkzone t/8 1400 mm motor to get proper motor mount.

I can't wait to fly this thing. From the videos I've seen this plane fly's like a dream for a bigger like me!

I have two hobby shops within 20 miles of me... And they carry nothing.. Grrr.

I need to find a way to mount this motor. Even shaving the plastic one to fit.

As long as the part with the wires and the part that attaches to the plane doesn't spin it's all good.
