Good freeware CAD programs?
I'm looking for a decent freeware CAD program that will let me make part outlines for laser cutting. The program needs to save as either .DWG or .DXF files so I can send them to the laser cutter. I need to be able to set sizes of holes, lengths, angles, all the sort of thing that CAD programs usually do. Any help would be great.

Try DevCAD LE. You can download a trial version here:
and if you like it, you can buy the full featured version for 25 euros ($35). Stefano Durano (the designer) offers excellent support. There's a bunch of other programs available as well, including CAM, 3D CAD and airfoil drafting.

It's e machine shop 4 me!
I use the download from: http://www.emachineshop.com/
It is free, saves files as dxf which needs a little editing to get it into V carve Pro which I use to generate G code for my mach 3 controlled router.
It has easy trim functions which I couldn't find in the program I bought-Design Cad 20. I tried Dev Cad too, with poor success. Try e machine shop, you pay nothing!

Dassault Systems offers a free CAD system very similar to AutoCAD. I have only used it a little but it seems pretty powerful. Very good documentation and they even have a YouTube channel for training tutorials.
