Overview

The Hangar 9® P-51D Mustang 60cc ARF is a remarkable replica of America’s favorite warbird. Modeled after the Mustangs used by the 357th Fighter Squadron during WWII, it’s constructed in 1/5-scale with lightweight balsa and plywood featuring full balsa-sheeting to maintain a strict scale appearance that’s also durable. Very few details were sacrificed in order to maintain a high-level of performance. So you get a correctly located tail wheel and other outline characteristics in a way that makes modern scale modeling worth while. The functioning flaps facilitate scale takeoffs and landings while the internally mounted power switches and concealed linkages help preserve the scale effect. One of the greatest convenience features is the three-piece wing, which features plug-in outer panels so that the center panel with the landing gear can stay attached to the fuselage—making assembly and transport super convenient. The airfoiled horizontal tail sections are removable as well.

This P-51D Mustang comes out of the box with all kinds of details that have been finished for you, including a removable scale antenna, a painted scale-shape spinner, gun details and much more. In addition, the inner gear doors have been fashioned to sequence in a scale manner using common components. The steerable tail wheel also features doors and a retractable electric tail wheel assembly (sold separately) that is a bolt-in option. Genuine UltraCote® covering delivers an easy to maintain finish that offers a realistically painted appearance similar to the way you’d see a professionally restored full-size P-51D today.

Just about everything Hangar 9 product developers could think of has been done to make set up convenient, including the removable top hatch for easy-access to battery packs, the fuel tank and radio equipment. The included sliding canopy and full-depth cockpit is provided as inspiration for you to take the scale experience as far as you’d like. Plus, you get two sets of marking decals; “Glamorous Glen III” as flown by Captain Chuck Yeager and “Gentleman Jim” as flown by Captain Jim Browning for an extra sense of authenticity and realism you can match up with aircraft still flying to this day.

The P-51D Mustang 60cc can be powered for warbird performance using gas or electric power. Unfortunately this is a copy & paste error. The P-51D 60cc does not have a top hatch, nor is it designed for simple conversion to electric power. It is designed around the Evolution 62GXI.

I apologize for the error. We are working to correct it.

It's a real shame it can't easily be made electric. I kinda thought that was the norm for Horizon. Either way it is a BEAUTIFUL plane. It's amazing how for along they have come. The big thing for me it's not a FW-190 (which I'm still holding out for). Don't let me down Horizon.

Positive perspective: It's a very attractive, large, P-51

Negative perspective: Did the modeling community really need another P-51? It's a very expensive proposition to consider flying it on electric power. It's fairly expensive.

Final opinion? I'll pass. Too big to go into my car, needs gas engine and is too expensive to fit my budget. Hoping HH brings out another warbird in the PZ series soon.

So all in all, it could be a 2000$ bird...

Mmmmmm life and choices... I'm afraid I'll have to sell one of my boomstick to get this baby !

She looks too good.. And I really want to get a glow bird now that I have trained with foamies for a while !

Nice looking plane!!!!! To bad on the electric option for folks, could hurt sales. But Mustangs are a dime a dozen and I'm sure it will sell like the other 10,000 on the market

Nice one Hanger 9!!!
There are very few "good" 50cc size Mustangs on the market. I owned a Top Flite which I found the ARF a bit dated.
I now currently own a Pheonix Models 50cc and although it flys well it's off scale looks puts me off.
Now looking to sell to buy this new awesome offering from Hanger 9

Kudo's to HH. Competitive priced considering with eletric retracts and 3 piece wing, larger size, scale wheel availability and options of finish.
I would like to see at least as an option, a sliding canopy and scale cockpit for pilot. Wonder what the upcharge would be for flight metal type alum finish at mfg?
My next large warbird will be a P51 with the above and also planning on using the Kolm IL-100 for power. The selections are few. These are an investment - not just another in the line up.
That's what so fun about this hobby - today we have so many options of sizes, power and types. I equally enjoy my little Heli's and the UMX Beast (soon to have a pitts with it) and even the balsa KIT build trainers.
Again Kudos to HH!!! Offering this week alone the UMX Pitts AND a P51 (along with several others in between).
I also like that HH core vale is supporting LHShops. My. Pre-orders are through mine. I'm blessed to be able to run down the road to get a tail rotor, wheel pant, swash link, whatever and not have to mail order.
