Dennis, dont worry, I ran a 12v optimized najade, and a dolphin R34 from CML on tamya plugged 7.2v ni-cad packs, and they got HOT, as the motor in the 700/12 motor in the najade, and the 540 motor in the dolphin are sucking somewhere around 40 to 50 amps on start up, with 30 amps on run,

as long as you dont totally flatten the batteries every time, you should be ok. replace the batteries as they may be nearing the end of their service life, but you will find that the next set of replacement batteries will probably get almost as hot.

The fact that they are getting hot is normal when under high current loads, Nicads heat up when fast charging as well, so dont fret about it, also let me guess, ur run time is somewhere between 5 and 10 mins?

Hi Dennis,

How long have the "old" 2400mAh batteries been out of use?
They need a couple of charging/discharging cycles to get up to full capacity.

As Ghost already mentioned, don't run the boat untill the batteries go flat, you'll kill the cells, I always (well amost always) bring my boats in, as soon as the speed starts to drop (the new GP3300 NiMH's are expensive, but are the best available!)

If you go for new cells, and you go for NiMH, make sure your charger can handle them safely.
One thing to take in account is, that you have to run NiMH cells hot from the charger, charging them the night before will kill them in no time.
Nicads, like the Sanyo RC2400 (the best Nicads IMO) can be run cold without taking damage.

Regards, Jan.

What prop? are you running more than 4 min's?
How many cells?
2400's are probably 3 years old, get GP3300's as soon as you can.
You won't belive the difference!!

Unless cost is no object or you're competing regularly, I'd look at some of the more budget-priced NiMH cells such as the bigger 3000 mAh Kan or similar. It really depends on how many amps you're going to be pulling and whether you need to squeeze the max voltage out of them. Anyway, with the new GP3600 being introduced, there may be bargains to be had of the "old" 3300.

These boats are 12 cells running for 4 min's.
I belive the lead boat is your hull, it is running 8L motor with 440 prop, and GP3300's for comparisom.
