335driver, Thanks for the story. Unfortunate as it turned out to be.
I really hadn't planned on bringing this up at this time, but "HE" made me!!
Since I had to shelve the build, as was previously stated, and with it sitting right above my head, pretty hard to ignore it.
I do, howerver plan to finish the Scorpion build, up to the painting, before I resume the F-86F build. If I had more room, it might be a different story.
I must say, that the knowledge I have learned from the Scorpion build, will really help in finishing the Sabre. It's no time to lose focus on the current build. I have all winter to work on this.

Nice start on the 86 Cooler!
I stuck to 1 project at a time, that is until I retired. This year I started w/ 4 going unfinished; finished 1 & sticking to another until the weather forces the issue. I made some mistakes & wasted time going back & forth.
Glad you're resolved to get the Scorpion done. I'll be watching.

Now that I am retired also, definitely more building time. Just not as much ca$h.
I really should have waited to bring this old thread back to life, getting more responce than I thought. Foolish me, I thought it would slip back into obscurity for a few more months. Well, What's done is done, I guess!
When I shelved the build last Dec, it was due to not being able to finish it off the "RIGHT" way. Then my little medical mishap didn't help either. But somewhat back on track, slowly accumulating the needed parts. I did PM C/N, regarding "correct" plot figure. Century Jet Models, I've found is the only one to have what I consider a decent looking pilot of that era. Was going to order it yesterday, but there are having some difficuly with the web site. Bruce (CJM) said there getting a new website. Should fix things.
Also, I have been in touch with Patty at BVM, regarding CF wing mounting hrdw. When I originaly did the fuse, first thought was a 1-piece removable wing. Still might, but looking at other options. Plug-ins?
Living in WI, you know all about long, cold winters!! So I will have lots of building time in the not to distant future. My building table is just that, a 24" x 72" counter top from Menards. It's a one plane at a time table!! LOL
Some time between Halloween and Thanksgiving, or however long it takes to get the Scorpion up to the "paint ready" stage first. before I fully resurect this thread.

Sorry--- I posted this just so I don't end up deleting it. Must have a record of my stuff!
Searched online and found an old document comparing tires from a captured Mig-15 and the standard F-86.
Said the F-86E Main tire was 26x6.6
Hope this helps
Nosewheel is 22 x 7.25 inch.
F-86 Sabre Historian
Which means at 1/7th scale, mains should be 3.71 " and nose wheel --3.14"
Anyway, I think I may down-size them a touch-- nose at 2 3/4" , mains-- 3 1/2".
Still pretty damn big!
Besides, this forum was getting a little slow!

Thanks for dropping by Rodger, but no not yet. Certainly not for the lack of time to work on it. I think it's just plain burn-out. Prior to the first post on this thread, I had put in at least a good month of planing and working up some plans. Then back around the early part of Dec 2012, put it on the back burner, for lack of funds for the retracts and struts to work on the wing.
Needing some thing to keep me busy in the mean time I started on the Scorpion plans. Just got the inital plans drawn up and then had my stroke.
A month in the hospital and week after I got home started back on Scorpion. Pretty slow going at that time. Not being able to work any more, I burnt up all my avaliable assets. Plan B--Retire, get my teamsters pension. That took about 3 months, once I had decided to apply, but I did receive back pay from Jan1 2013. So now as I sit here, I have 5-6 boxes of parts waiting to be put somewhere!! Now I know most guys don't like to shop, but I enjoyed the Hell out of it--
Struts, retracts, ESC's, servos, etc. Enough to finish the Scorpion build and a damn good start back on the Sabre. Still need on more fan/motor combo. Just waiting to see what the New Schuebeler HDS 90mm is all about- price and performance. That or another JF90/Het 1200KV.
Now I just need to get some "drive" to get going again. Stuarts videos of his Sabre is an incentive .
So mods done between the 2 videos.
Currently stuck on the wing for the Scorpion, a little more complex than I had thought--even with all my planning. Great practice for the Sabre wing, which might be even more work. If, big IF, I can get my A$$ in gear, I could have that wing done and glassed in a week or so. Then it might time to take a break form the Scorpion build and resume the Sabre. Never planned on either on being done before spring anyway, and winters can be very long and cold in northern Minnesota. Lots of time yet.
As you can see a few posts back, my Sabre driver is waiting and ready. Needs
a little paint though.
Now not that I don't have enough that I should be doing, as a side project I need to build one of these. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1581061
Need to have a good PS for the Power Lab -8 I intend to get.

Thank you kind sir!
Funny thing about the Sabre, the interest never seems to die.
C/N has the " EJF.com "Venom rc" 70mm F-86 mod thread...". http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1292286
Then there's the -Fly Fly F-86 Sabre complete build thread A-Z
Both have been around for awhile, and still active.
Now Feeewing just came out with a 80mm one.
It's only 33 days old, an already has 39 pages!!
Makes me want to get back to the build--but got to finish the Scorpion first.
As a constant reminder, my fuse is on a shelf just above my monitor.
Sometimes I think I hear it calling out --- finish me!!

Hey cooler, I saw your post on the pilots. We have a more era correct sabre pilot that's on the large side of 1/8 scale (he's technically about 1/7.5 scale). Have you seen it? Not trying to change your plans, just bringing it up in the event it may be helpful. Bust is about 3.5" tall.
